Question for recent combat vets and current military:

Would you volunteer to be one of the 300 'non-combatant advisers' to go back to Iraq?

Anybody know if this will be a volunteer mission?
If I had been assigned over there previously, I don't think I would like to go back.

Never been in combat.
I was a 'cold warrior' in the ANG.
Never been shot at.
If I had been, I wouldn't want to risk it again.

If they come under fire they will become combatants.
I can't see this not happening.

At least the helipad on the roof this time is larger.

And until then, they will be doing their advising shtick, whatever that entails. I understand these Green Berets are not the Super double secret background 'black op' variety we see in the movies, but professional soldiers working in small teams inserted in to Republican Guard units to help get their shit together. It may or may not work.

green berets...

this is not a volunteer mission. People are getting orders if they were unlucky enough to be in the rotation.
