People need to think before they speak and act!

When someone calls you on the phone to do a poll, please remember they are doing a job.

We have had two incidents today regarding callers getting hurt.

First was a caller being asked for her phone number so the person being called could bother her at home when she was trying to relax.
The caller has no home, she lost it due to the bills from losing her husband a year and a half ago and her child 3 months ago. This comment hurt her greatly.

The next was an autistic gentleman we have. He is fantastic at polling. However, he is scared to death of those little party horns, the sound scares him badly. Someone answered the phone and blew one. The poor man was so upset, he had to go home mid sift.

The people who call you to do polls don't know anything about you save for maybe your name, the same goes for you towards them.
Please remember they are doing a job. If you wish not to participate, just say so and/or hang up.

I make a point of not letting a caller--whether a pollster, a charity, or anyone else--waste his/her time. I am not going to purchase anything over the phone or contribute to unconfirmed charities over the phone, so I polity tell them so and get them off the phone quickly, because they do get in trouble sometimes if they don't meet a call quota.

Many people who take such jobs do so because they are the only jobs they can get.

Many with stars in their eyes about doing political polling. It takes about a week and they see that people don't really care about voicing their concerns and making a difference about anything.

"stared." Mine wouldn't even allow me to type "shopped" earlier this evening. It kept turning my word into "ships" before I could finish typing it!

I discovered a few weeks ago that I had been sending emails and posting comments here on DU that were full of bizarre words. I finally realized that autocorrect was turning into Skynet. Now I notice these things in my own messages and also in other people's.

Lady Freedom Returns makes a good point that motivates me to be more tolerant & patient with those calls.

And say I am not interested but some are agressive and won't take no for an answer. I just hang up on them now. To much trouble trying to explain anything to them. I don't think they should be allowed to call people on the no call list anyway. Always call around dinner time. Very rude.

There's no need in 2014 to do any phone solicitation of any kind. With all the other outlets for online surveys and polling, the LAST thing I need is somebody to call me up and bother me. This would be my opinion, and if you call, I'll flatly hang up. don't want to be bothered. PERIOD.
