Ghost of Iraq haunts Condoleezza Rice portrait unveiling

Iraq was the ghost in the room Wednesday as Condoleezza Rice returned to the State Department to reflect on her time as the top US diplomat saying history would be the judge.

Rice, who was the national security advisor and secretary of state under president George W. Bush, did not once mention the renewed crisis in the country that US troops invaded in 2003 on the orders of the Bush administration.

Nor did current Secretary of State John Kerry, who called instead for greater bipartisanship as he welcomed Rice for the unveiling of her portrait to be hung alongside those of legends of American diplomacy such as Ben Franklin and George Washington.

Neither did the staunch Democrat Kerry seem to blanche at the list of invited guests, which read almost like a who's-who of the past Republican administration and included Rice's deputy John Negroponte, former homeland security advisor Fran Townsend and former national security advisor Brent Scowcroft.

On Edit: and I'll bet Swampy (who I hope is ok) would do it for far less than the $54K it cost to have that abomination painted.

He had a couple more of her that were as revealing. I remember one with blood dripping from her hands and her face was that of a vampire.

How she attained such power is beyond me. Except for her "oil company" background and her supposedly being an "expert" on Russia...yet she loved those wars in the Middle East.

and one of its greatest traditions that after an election there are peaceful transitions. Of course we wish the whole of BushInc were jailed, but, current statesmen/women are NOT going to buck tradition and show that to the world.

Even if YOU were the Sec of State, Scuba, are you so certain you would not uphold tradition? I tend to be uber-belligerent, so you wouldn't want ME in that position - I would be cussing Bushies out every time I opened my mouth. ; )
