A two-month stay at a homeless shelter in Omaha made a big impression on Nashville country and Christian singer Kristina Craig.

Craig, her mom and two siblings lived at the Stephen Center near 27th and Q Streets in the 1990s after fleeing an abusive home in Indiana. It was one of several stops for the family — Craig’s father was tracking his wife and children.

Country and Christian singer Kristina Craig will play at the Stephen Center, where as a child she stayed for two months with her mom and siblings.

The singer was about 7 years old at the time. Now 26, she remembers the homeless shelter’s big playroom and the staff’s kindness.
“We got tons of love and attention to take our minds off what was happening,” Craig said. “It was not like we were just another number.”
