Cutting the DoD budget will lead to severe layoffs. No getting around that but it has to be done.

The money could be used for what these soulless spenders of the MIC oppose. All have better returns for US on investment, like education and health care. The dirty secret is the number of good jobs we are losing to high tech export of jobs to Brazil, India, China..etc.

We must stop subsides to all fossil fuel companies. The Kochs, bushes, Cheneys will still be billionaires. My father had a 3C job building for Boeing in Ohio, pre-WW2. Thanks to a lack of safety harnesses on steel construction sites, he was lucky to survive an eight story fall.

The US DoD number includes civilian support staff.
The PLA number does not. It's only active duty soldiers, because China doesn't reveal the number of civilian support staff.

If we use the same measure for the US DoD, it drops to 1.6M employees, tying it with the UK's NHS for 4th.
Any reasonable guess for the PLA's civilian employees push them well over 3.2M, but they're all guesses.

Maybe it is just a myth, but I always heard the Chinese has as many as an 100,000,000 person standing army.

And that name. People's Liberation Army? Really?

The largest employer in the world, public or private, is the US Dept of Defense.

The largest private employer is Wal-Mart.

Pretty much tells you all you need to know about 'Merka, huh?
