Rick Santorum: Gay Marriage Hurts The Economy

In an interview Thursday, former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum floated an argument against gay marriage that's becoming more common from those who oppose it: It is bad for the economy.

Santorum made the remarks in an interview with the conservative news outlet TownHall, while he attended the March for Marriage in Washington, D.C.

"When we continue to see a decline in marriage and a redefinition of marriage, you get less marriage," he said. "You get families that aren't as strong, and as a result, society generally, the economy suffers."

....

"It's important for us to stand up for what is best for children, what's best for society, what's best for the economy, and make that case," he concluded.

1. lol, from 2009..the same bullshit: Michael Steele: Gay Marriage Is Bad For Small Businesses

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Republicans can reach a broader base by recasting gay marriage as an issue that could dent pocketbooks as small businesses spend more on health care and other benefits, GOP Chairman Michael Steele said Saturday.

Steele said that was just an example of how the party can retool its message to appeal to young voters and minorities without sacrificing core conservative principles. Steele said he used the argument weeks ago while chatting on a flight with a college student who described herself as fiscally conservative but socially liberal on issues like gay marriage.

"Now all of a sudden I've got someone who wasn't a spouse before, that I had no responsibility for, who is now getting claimed as a spouse that I now have financial responsibility for," Steele told Republicans at the state convention in traditionally conservative Georgia. "So how do I pay for that? Who pays for that? You just cost me money."

As Steele talked about ways the party could position itself, he also poked fun at his previous pledge to give the GOP a "hip-hop makeover."

It would cost the small business less in benefits? Really?

The lack of honest reasoning is astounding.

Gay Marriage is behind the cancellation of, "Arrested Development," global warming, Michael Bay movies, and Annie being played by a Black girl in the upcoming movie!

Methinks there's something missing from his argument.

"sneaks up from behind, knocks the economy on the head, ties it up and blindfolds it. Then drags it to the back room where it kicks the hell out of it!" Santorum continued, "If you get my drift". "Er, anybody?"

coming into local economies from weddings and all the associated spending - lots at small and local businesses (catering, photography, venues, hotels, etc)

Also, being married means a couple gets tax breaks by being able to file jointly. That's more money they have to spend. Don't Repubs usually like lower taxes?
