On the day he died, he was forced to crawl almost the length of a football field over gravel while his fellow soldiers threw rocks at him.
Simply ugly beyond words.

(28,968 posts)It broke my heart and I never forgot it --- SO awful.
I'm glad that he's at least being remembered in this work of theater.
Ugly beyond words is right -- The scum that tormented him got off much too easily.

(28,968 posts)What the HELL is wrong with people?...Why are they so cruel and full of hate?
Danny Chen was only 19, the youngest of his entire platoon.
All he wanted to do was to serve his country and "be like a real American".
I hope the perps live in PAIN with this for the rest of their miserable lives.

(3,891 posts)These individuals are supposed to be in charge, setting an example, but in all the stories coming out of Afghanistan, Iraq, and even here in the US, Sergeants are at best weak, and at worst instigating the problems. So the Officers are apparently utterly ignorant, or perhaps also weak. I can't say what I would have done if I was there, since I wasn't. But I'd like to think that I'd stand up and say no more. Perhaps that is the dreamer in me. But at least the image of the dreamer is one I can live with.
