Paul Wolfowitz, Bill Kristol, and their fellow neocons botched Iraq. Now they want to tell you what they think. Ignore them.

Lets say youre an academic-turned-public official who helped push your government into war. You promised an easy victory and an inexpensive reconstruction, financed by the conquered nations oil revenue. You built your case on the presence of weapons of mass destruction in the targeted country, and then switched gearsthis was a war for liberationwhen none were found.
Within a year of the invasion, it was clear your advocacy was a mistake. The easy occupation never materialized, and America was stuck with an expensive quagmire. The war you helped engineer had become a disaster for everyone involved, with countless deaths and trillions in wasted dollars. Now, more than a decade later, the United States has ended its war and left this country to handle its own affairs. And in short order, it has collapsed into chaos and anarchy, thanks to sectarian leadership and deadly extremists.
Given your role in building this catastrophe, you should be barred from public comment, since anything you could say is outweighed by the damage youve done. But this assumes a world where elites, like yourself, are accountable for their ideas. Not only are we not in that world, were in its opposite, where failed elites are invited to pontificate on their failures, as if they havent been already discredited by their performances.

Now, with Iraq on the verge of unraveling after the departure of U.S. forces, conservative pundits and some politicians who were wrong about Iraq then are declaiming a new reason for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, saying it was to liberate the Iraqis. The United States sacrificed 4,500 Americans in the name of freedom for the Iraqis, and President Barack Obama is blowing it, they say.
For instance, here's Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas):
Sad but true @benshapiro: It took nearly 4,500 American lives to win freedom for Iraq. It took one president to lose it.

(268,693 posts)and their lies, crimes, etc. I love it when they talk about innocent people being killed anywhere because they sure never covered all the people they killed in Iraq. They refused to cover the arrival of dead military personnel and they lay back and let Bushco and their neo-cons plunder and lie. They even defended torture.
I don't plan to forget.

(21,925 posts)opportunity to say it. We all expect Cheney et al to make us sick to the point of throwing up. We all expect Cheney and gang to lie. But why are these lies being broadcast on national television? Was Charles Manson given opportunity after opportunity to tell his side of the story? Was John Wayne Gacy repeatedly given every chance on national television to explain why he did what he did and why he was justified?

(58,284 posts)in fact trying to change the frame of the debate to Republican advantage.
Paraphrasing 'It was all about freedom and the Democrats were right in believing the People of Iraq couldn't handle or want freedom and I was wrong because I believed they could.'
Beck's point being Democrats hate freedom and Republicans believe in it, nothing about the evils of waging an unjust war based on lies and brainwashing propaganda.
Beck also talked about the supposed "unanimous" belief that Iraq was making WMDs and posed an imminent threat, just because Hillary Clinton believed it, no mention of the vast majority of Democrats that never fell for that swill.
There was also no mention in Beck's mea culpa of the lies used to deceive the American People by himself and so many others of the corporate media in blindly promoting the neo cons despicable agenda carte blanche.
Today, the same corporate media which was enthralled with these disastrous policies are either giving their former "leaders" every opportunity to defend it, attack the Obama Administration or as is the case with Beck, using subliminal propaganda tactics to re-frame the debate and deceive the American People.
Thanks for the thread, napkinz.
