Sheriff Joe Arpaio dismisses his own obsession with Obama’s birth certificate

In an exclusive interview with The Washington Times, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced that he would not be running for governor because he has too many “sensitive investigations going on — including the president’s birth certificate.”

He claimed that he was asked to run for governor “a couple weeks ago,” but declined because “I’d have to resign, because I’m not going to leave this office to somebody coming in, when I have sensitive investigations going on — including the president’s birth certificate. I haven’t finished that yet.”

Rusty Humphries then asked, “Is that one of the reasons they’re dumping illegals in your backyard?”

“I don’t know if that’s the reason,” Arpaio responded. “I’m such a high profile guy on immigration.”

“Do you still believe,” Humphries interrupted to ask, “that the president was not born in the country — that there’s a problem with the birth certificate?”

“I don’t care where he was born,” Arpaio said. “That has nothing to do with it. I’m concerned with a foraged — forged government document. From Day 1, I’ve been investigating that. Now, we have to find out who’s behind that.”

“And I’m getting close to that,” he continued. “Anyone else, they’d go to jail!”

He also claimed that the only reason anyone in Congress is concerned with legal issues concerning immigration is that “they need to pacify the Hispanic community.”
