Are women exempt from being "mediocre"?

I don't agree that they are mediocre, I happen to really like Katy Perry's music and me and my niece, whom I didn't spend any time with until she was a teenager, bonded over Katy Perry's music. I've been a Hillary fan since she and Bill and I campaigned together in the 80s. But Hillary is not my choice at this time in our history.

does not negate the rest of the statement. What has that member done to proclaim his or herself so superior to those two people, who are women? Whether you want to pretend they aren't is your problem.

Evidently I should have used the now commonly acceptable term and referred to them as c...ts rather than women. Then my post would have been seen as acceptable to the reigning ethos of the moment. Heaven forbid anyone refer to the female gender with anything other than complete contempt. The word police strike again.

And your statement "Whether you want to pretend they aren't is your problem." Is COMPLETELY out of line. I dare you to find one sexist comment from me in my entire time at DU. Go ahead, I'll wait here. Nor have I EVER called a woman a "c*nt", either verbally or in writing!

That's ENOUGH of your bullshit accusations towards me! You have no basis upon which to imply anything like that about me.

You are consumed by hatred. It shows in your every post. You should have that looked at.

Just because someone is a woman doesn't exclude them from being perceived as mediocre. That's how you have presented yourself in this subthread, as if being called mediocre is a sexist insult. IT'S NOT!

Also, I see what you're saying and how you make fun of people in HOF. You should really stop. Finally, it's none of your business what that poster has done with their life, unless that poster decides to include you in that knowledge.

Because I don't like to see people demeaned by vulgar slurs?

I made no accusation toward you other than word police. Get over yourself. My post was about the now reigning assumption that liberalism requires free use of bigoted language. Then you come to pick at me for using the word women. I pointed out the irony of it all.

The question about mediocrity is regardless of gender. I have no doubt that both of those two women (ooops, there I go again) have accomplished far more in life than virtually any regular poster on this board, and certainly far more than myself. That is certainly true for Secretary Clinton.

Get over your persecution complex. For someone championing the use of vulgarity, you're awfully thin-skinned about non-vulgar free speech.

How I make fun of people in HOF? You've lost the plot now. I am a regular HOF poster.

direct insult towards me.

For your information, I have never even come close to sexist thoughts. It's completely foreign to me. I have the utmost respect for women, two of which were my mother and my grandmother.

I'm not referring only to the posts made by you in this subthread. You are all over this board, doing your thing. You jumped on me with your hate from the very first time you've ever addressed me on this forum.

I'll go back to your first and second post in this subthread that, when taken together, look to me as if you're trying to make the "mediocre" observation a sexist one. It's not. Anyone can be perceived as mediocre. If that was not your intent, I apologize. But, taking into account your most recent contributions here in GD, as well as elsewhere on this website, that's what it looks like to me.

Now, if you'll pardon me ma'am, I'm done with this subthread. Life is too short to waste on someone who has proven determined to keep arguing and whom I'm reasonably certain will discard my apology (if I was wrong that you were calling out what you perceived as sexism re: the mediocre comment).

I wish you well, BainsBane, I really do. I used to enjoy your contribution but lately you've been really bitter. I hope you find peace.

So why would I provide evidence for something I never said?

What I jumped on you about in the other post was your posting a series of Meta threads and then telling people not to post meta threads. I then used a new paragraph to go on a rant about the overall hypocrisy I've witnessed in general over the past few days. It is a mistake for you to take that as personally directed toward you, as some sort of accusation that you used such words. I did not say that, nor did I mean it.

Anyone can be perceived as mediocre. Mentioning the fact Perry and Clinton are women does not negate that. I understand people here have disagreements with Clinton politically. That, however, is not the same as mediocrity. I can see of no conceivable definition of the word mediocre that includes Hillary Clinton. In some ways, her gender is at issue because she's risen to her place in life through a time period where women faced tremendous obstacles. That is all the more reason she is not mediocre.

I never said the mediocre comment was sexist. That is entirely a function of your imagination. You seem to think the fact I mentioned they are women implies an allegation of sexism. It does not.

This passage is the height of irony:

Now, if you'll pardon me ma'am, I'm done with this subthread. Life is too short to waste on someone who has proven determined to keep arguing and whom I'm reasonably certain will discard my apology (if I was wrong that you were calling out what you perceived as sexism re: the mediocre comment).

You entered this subthread by picking at my use of the word women. Now it turns out you did so because you thought the very mention of gender implied sexism. It does not, and I find it bizarre you should think so. If I want to call someone or something sexist, make no doubt about it, I will do so directly. Then you proceeded to accuse me of insulting you, something I did not do, and then insisted I was full of hatred. That is indeed an insult.

Now, both Katy Perry and Hillary Clinton are women. Should Hillary Clinton be elected President, she would be the first women to hold that office. That I make an observation about her gender does not mean I am accusing anyone of sexism. It simply is.

If you are to apologize for something, it should be calling me full of hatred and falsely accusing me of making insults toward you that I never did.

38. Let's review these "insults"
Sun Jun 22, 2014, 03:09 PM

Your insults: "bitterness and hatred;" "And your insult-filled response is no surprise. It's just who you are.'

"You are consumed by hatred. It shows in your every post. You should have that looked at."

What I said about you: "word police" and "thin-skinned." I never accused you of calling women a .c...t, and I made that clear in my follow up response to you. I was very clear that I was talking about the ongoing discussion that liberalism requires free use of such words, and you yourself posted an OP in defense of the rude pundit (which I told you previously I had not read, so I couldn't comment on its content."

You also told me " You have no right to tell anyone how to act." I told no one how to act. I gave my views--speech to which you say I have no right.

I see now I misunderstood your point about making fun of people in HOF. You meant to say that while in HOF I make fun of people. (The placement of modifiers in English alter the meaning of a sentence. Hence my misunderstanding). What we have spoken about recently in HOF is the irony of some decrying censorship while calling for bannings and/or telling people they have no right to speak. You yourself just did the latter in in this very exchange. We named no one by name but spoke about an overall hypocrisy, which some clearly resent being pointed out. Pointing out irony is not telling people to act. I challenge you to provide a quote from this exchange with you that constitutes telling anyone how to act.

As for insults, those are yours. You are the one who made the insults but your comment reveals perfectly what this whole thing is about. People think they should be free to insult others without comment, but if anyone objects, that speech is invalid, has no right to exist. It is all about the importance of self over others.

You champion the Rude Pundit but denounce my speech which doesn't rise to that level of insult or vulgarity. You supported the thread with a hole host of vulgarities, but claim my speech is without rights. You do not support free speech. You support yourself and people like you, but not the speech of those who dare to disagree.
