The right fears the emergence of a new caliphate. I'm not quaking in my boots

My solution to Iraq is the same as it was in 2003: Bring back the Turks. Of course, that can't happen.

The ironic part is that, right now, people are freaking out about the potential creation of a caliphate in Iraq and Syria. But the last real caliphate was the Ottoman Empire. It was pretty darned fierce during the late Middle Ages.

But in more modern times, it was a lazy, inept dinosaur of a state that was useful mainly because it policed a crazy part of the word. When you think "caliphate," don't think Mehmed II, think Mehmed VI.
