New study: More women shot & killed by domestic partners than all US soldiers who died in Iraq/Afgha

New study finds more women shot and killed by domestic partners than all US soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan

Former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was nearly killed in a 2011 mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona, and has since become a leading advocate for gun control, has embarked upon a campaign that aims to rally women to get behind tougher gun laws. Her efforts come as a new report showed that from 2001 through 2012, more women were shot and killed by intimate partners than all U.S. troops who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

“Women can lead the way,” Giffords told a panel discussion Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

In 2013, efforts to increase the scope of background checks to include online and gun show sales failed just four months after the killing of 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

“Criminals who have guns, stalkers who have guns, abusers who have guns that make them violent are an issue — for mothers, for families, for me and you,” Giffords said.

proof that one can be pro-Second Amendment, and pro-gun control at the same time. Right-wing Second Amendment absolutists will claim that Gabby is using sensationalism and "emotion" to trample their God-given paranoid rights to kill other Americans with an implement designed specifically for that purpose.

6. Off the top of my head, I personally know of 4 cases where a domestic situation lead to a gun death.

Three were listed as homicides and one as an accident.
Guns are a handy little tool to take a life to make a point in the heat of an argument, I guess.

We are supposed to be a more advanced world here in the west, but with guns so frickin' easy
to get a hold of and very often so close by they become the final solution to much more complex situations.

Nothing stops what's going on quicker than a gun shot..

ps...some think it is romantic to keep a loaded gun in the house to protect the little misses, but that same
determination to protect is just as often turned into the shooters sense of authority..seems to be bred into many of the gun nuts.

a gun provides a sense of power that, in reality, they lack.
The power to protect and the power to punish, the two roles every man is supposed to embody.

(please give it to all young women of your acquaintance, please!) every four hours, a woman is killed in America by her husband or boyfriend.

But there is no war on women, and the US doesn't have a problem with misogyny, if I read DU right.
