Texas man dies in shootout with deputies after failing to gun down ex-wife

A Texas man barged into his ex-wife’s book store on Friday and tried to gun her down with a pistol. According to the Associated Press, however, the gun malfunctioned, giving the woman time to run and call 911.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department told KXXV News Channel 25 that they received a call around 1:00 p.m. about a possible active shooter at the Book Trail bookstore, south of Hamilton, which is about 60 miles west of Waco.

When the woman called police, her ex-husband left the scene in a pickup truck. Channel 25 reported that deputies surrounded the man’s home, but found the building unoccupied. They proceeded to a second home where they found the suspect sitting in his truck. When officers surrounded him, the man emerged from the pickup armed with semi-automatic rifle and opened fire. Deputies returned fire and killed the suspect before he was able to hurt anyone. The sheriff’s office has declined to name the suspect at this time.

like he was hoping to get another chance to kill her with the semi-automatic rifle.

Would have been another murder-suicide (by self or police) without the handgun malfunction.

I'm all for tougher gun regulations, including an ownership gun ban for any domestic violence including verbal threats of any type.
