Great to know that the Evangelical movement wants to create a theocracy based on Jindal's comment at the Faith and Freedom conclave. Radical Christians are angry they cannot freely inflict their beliefs on non believers. Now that we have a religious war cooking in the Middle East, we have an active Dominionist movement here that wants to create its own totalitarian theocracy.
We could solve the problem by sending these radical Christians To Syria, Iraq or somewhere in the Middle East where the radical Islamists want a Caliphate. This new religious freedom meme is dangerous to our government and democracy because these "true believers" are convinced that this nation is a Christian nation that must be led by Biblical principles.
Yet the media gives these extremists all the coverage they need. And the Koch's et al are more than eager to give them all the money they need as long as the Koch's get what they want. In my lifetime I never thought that I would see religion openly threatening to be the dominant power in our otherwise secular country.

(38,506 posts)'no religious test required for office' and 'no law respecting an establishment of religion' do they not understand?

(53,661 posts)That the phrase 'no religious test required for office' is up for debate, that if people really want that, our democracy allows the laws to be changed to reflect that as they are doing in red states.
It's part of the new 'Tenther' movement that replaced the 'states rights' crowd. They hinge all they do under that provision of the Bill of Rights. It allows them to control the population in each state without the rest of the Constitution getting in the way.
Their view of 'limited government' is to repeal every amendment after the Tenth. Repealing the 14th with birthright citizenship, due process and equal protection under the law is top of the list, followed by the repeal of the income tax and women's sufferage amendment. They've been pushing taking the vote away from women for years, and demonizing the IRS and all things after the 10th.
They are planning to call for a Constitutional convention when they can get enough state legislatures 'red' as Paul Ryan said. They are well funded in this effort and have used many organizing tools.
The First Amendment's 'no law respecting an establishment of religion' is viewed by them as a one way street, not 'the wall of separation between church and state' which they take in the opposite direction of secularists.
They say government is the only one restrained by that, and they can do as they please. And they claim that Obama is the one who plans to establish religion in government with Sharia law and want to beat him to it.
At least that's what the Tea baggers tell me...

(25,111 posts)their so called "Christian" values has been on going for quite sometime but is gaining strength because of hate radio and corporate media, and unlimited monies. "We the People" means nothing to these self-righteous want to be Christians. Never think that any President of the USA and his or her Administration are not aware of this. They are. Let the wackos proceed, and it will obvious it will be blamed on the GOP party for this. Killing innocent Americans for Christian beliefs will backfire 24/7.

Where oh where are we headed. I've been thinking a lot about money in politics, it is awful but....it wouldn't work if we didn't have a huge supply of easily manipulated uninformed and/or misinformed people in this country. Then there is our ridiculous, easy to play with hanky panky with, voting systems here in the US. It's been proven multiple times that many voting machines can be hacked easily. Also, there are real issues with vote custody after an election.
I have to think if we had secure reliable voting, and an informed populace, then people like Jindal might have a hard time getting elected even with the Big Money issue.
