(3,183 posts)It's a scene that is becoming all too familiar in Albuquerque, activists taking the streets in protest against APD. This comes after the U.S. Department of Justice found a culture of aggression with the department.
"I'm here to represent my son Alfred Redwine and all the people that have been brutalized by APD," said Sandra Othole. Othole is the mother of Alfred Redwine, who was shot by APD in 2013.
Redwine and 27 others have been shot by APD since 2010.
Each of those killed is represented today with a makeshift tombstone. There was also a casket full of names of people killed by police across the country. A message to end police brutality in a peaceful way."

(111,245 posts)It's kind of embarrassing.
It would be better if they didn't carry military stuff with them and they did carry things like beanbag guns instead. Boyd could have been stopped with a beanbag or two, one of them in the breadbasket is enough to take the fight out of most people.
My own dealings with them have been 100% professional, but I'm a honky and a now retired nurse and I know the difference those make. I'd still like them to keep the flash-bangs locked up and the beanbag rounds in the trunk instead of the reverse.
Screening some of them for steroid abuse might also be a good idea.

(13,324 posts)Seriously, when even the far-right-as-Fox Daily Mail reports on police brutality, you know things are bad.

(3,183 posts)Then again things haven't been exactly peaches and cream lately either. I don't hate cops as much as I hate wrong and it's a curse when a person still knows the difference between.
