climate change is a hoax? They will never learn. Interesting predictions shown in the maps in the article from Financial Times.

(45,251 posts)Whoever it was, it was a Republican consultant. Apparently, "climate change" polled better than "global warming." (Maybe because it's a lot vaguer?) And, they were successful. It's become a common term.
Maybe environmentalists should try to come up with another term? "Worsening climate" or "deteriorating climate" is not really catchy enough.

(45,251 posts)but I thought the right might successfully deride it as fear mongering.
George Carlin pointed out that we don't have to save Earth. The planet is not going anywhere. Human beings, on the other hand, might not survive.
I don't know how people who have seen coastlines recede in their lifetimes can love their grandbabies and great grandbabies and flip off global warming, air pollution, water pollution, vanishing farm lands, etc.

(14,549 posts)WAPO: Climate change: Get ready or get sued
Filed by Farmers Insurance Co. on behalf of itself, other insurance companies and customers whose property was damaged by the surge of storm water and sewage overflow, the lawsuits allege the governments of Chicago-area municipalities knew their drainage systems were inadequate and failed to take reasonable action to prevent flooding of insured properties.

So they are setting up a kind of insanity plea defense -- "we didn't know."

(42,674 posts)when the impact of climate change becomes clearly obvious to the majority of the voters it will be on someone else's watch and these sleaze bags (Rick Scott comes to mind) will be long gone in a pleasant picturesque part of the world counting their money. By that time mostly Dems will be in office in most elected offices because the voters will have seen the rethugs for the lying self-serving thieves and liars they are. But ... the pressure will be on the Dems with the public demanding "why haven't you fixed this yet?" as if all they have to do is flip a switch or just throw some money at what would really be a collossal problem.

(7,759 posts)The snow birds are returning earlier every year and staying longer. Quite a few in my condo have sold their get-a-way homes in FL and returned here (MD) permanently. The poor in the areas most affected by climate change do not have the means to escape but we are getting our fill of pompous RWingers moving in all around us. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't always look down their noses at the middle to low income people they are displacing in the area with good weather and good jobs. As soon as they move in they start bitching about the rules we have and want to change board policies that so that fees are raised to keep out certain people they don't like.
