I think this speaks volumes about what Politico is really about:

The Man Who Broke the Middle East
By ELLIOTT ABRAMS
June 22, 2014

Dear dear Elliott was part of Reagan' foreign policy gangsters, a jerk who helped cover up the 1982 Mozote massacre in El Salvador and such an enthusiastic supporter of the illegal contra war run from the White House basement that he happily lied to Congress about the matter -- pleading guilty later during the Iran-Contra investigations, in order to avoid a number of felony charges. Bush One pardoned him, and dear dear Elliott continued to polish his rightwing credentials. Eventually, he ended up with the Project for a New American Century, before landing in the National Security Council during the administration of Bush Two as Senior Director for Democracy, Human Rights, and International Operations and then as Senior Director for Near East and North African Affairs. Many memorable moments involving the themes of Democracy and Human Rights in Near East during the Bush Two era thus probably bear dear dear Elliott's finger prints: what comes to mind, in particular, is the cheerful adoption of the "Salvador option" in Iraq, which brought death squads to the already-destroyed country and filled the morgues there with corpses bearing signs of having been tortured to death by electric drills and such

Dear dear Elliott currently expounds the view that the problems of the Middle East can be laid squarely at the feet of the current president -- as if the policies from 2001 to 2009 had improved the situation in the region and enhanced US prestige there, by reducing Iraq to wreckage and exhibiting to the world a super-power as large-scale torturer

Bush pardoned Abrams (along with Caspar Weinberger, Clair George, Robert MacFarlane, Duane Clarridge and Alan Fiers, Jr.) in the dead of night on Christmas Eve 1992 after he had lost his re-election bid to Bill Clinton. Bush was a lame duck president who bought the silence of his co-conspirators in a decade of criminal activity and cut off the Walsh investigation into Iran-contra. Bush had the brass to invent the concept of "the criminalization of policy differences" while unlocking the prison doors for his pals.

Twenty-two years later, we are favored with the opinions and insights of one of those felons. Very nice.

Seems like this is the sort of political shenanigans that would be a touchstone of our political discourse. But for some reason, we hear more about "malaise" (a word President Carter never used) or "I was for it before I was against it" than we ever do about this naked criminality.

I have a huge problem with Bill's friendship

With the Bush Crime Family, legitimizing a bunch of criminals... Going to basketball games with junior and hanging with his dad, honoring him on tv.

I find it morally repugnant.

He is strangely quiet while all his partners in crime are on EVERY TV station, spewing their lies. Where IS he? Somewhere painting self portraits, such as REHAB, or an assisted living facility? Maybe after they balance his meds, he will be coherent enough to speak up? He can have his choice of which TV station, time etc., unlike President Obama who was refused access to any of them to address the American people. Not to worry, here comes Jeb, ready to take the helm at the WH, and enrich the wealthy even more. He is the "smart one" in the family. How smart would a person have to be to be smarter than W, Neil, Geo. Sr? Even Babs "Who cares how many body bags are returned?"

The fact that this criminal still gets paid to write neocon drivel underscores how broken our political system is.

That act, alone, makes him a traitor. According to W's father, at least.

But this is what America has become, folks. The voice and vision we show the rest of the world remains what this evil man and his cronies put out on our own wonderful MSM.

I wonder if his smile is because he's looking at a picture of the disinterred body of a Central American child?
