UPDATED: Arkansas GOP Official: Hillary Would 'Probably Get Shot At The State Line'

DYLAN SCOTT – JUNE 24, 2014, 3:13 PM EDT

At least one GOP official in Arkansas thinks Hillary Clinton would receive a rather chilly welcome as a 2016 presidential candidate in her adoptive home state.

"She'd probably get shot at the state line," 2nd Congressional District party chairman Johnny Rhoda told U.S. News. When pressed that Clinton would likely still enjoy some level of affection in the state where her husband Bill served as governor for 10-plus years, Rhoda held firm.

"Nobody has any affection for her," he said. "The majority don't."

A May 2014 poll from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling showed Clinton leading former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul among Arkansas voters in potential 2016 match-ups -- though she did trail former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee by three percentage points.

UPDATE:

Arkansas GOPer: Saying Hillary Would 'Get Shot' Wasn't Meant As A Threat

DYLAN SCOTT – JUNE 24, 2014, 5:21 PM EDT

The Arkansas GOP official who reportedly said that Hillary Clinton would "probably get shot" if she entered the state as a presidential candidate asserted on Tuesday that he had been taken out of context.

"That comment was taken way out of context," 2nd Congressional District party chairman Johnny Rhoda told Business Insider about the U.S. News report on his remarks. "It certainly was not meant in a threatening or hostile way at all. It was just a comment. Perhaps I used the wrong word."

"It was completely blown out of proportion," he added. The U.S. News reporter who reported Rhoda's initial quote, David Catanese, wasn't having it.

"Oh, yes, 'taken out of context,'" Catanese told Business Insider in an email. "As in -- taken out of our on-the-record conversation and into print."

He said something to the effect that if Bill Clinton came to his state he better bring body guards. The Secret Service paid him a visit and let him know in no uncertain terms that President Clinton has a huge detail of body guards. I think Mr. Helms later retracted his statement and said he didn't mean it the way it sounded.

He had a lot of illnesses that plagued him, slowed him up, and made him miserable at the end.

It was sort of like all of his meanness was coming back at him.

So what would the correct word be sir? Perforated? Given a lead injection? Smoked? Just what is the current redneck colloquialism that would be proper in describing the assassination of a political figure?

I am never left lacking amazement at the stupidity of right wingers.

WTF is this widespread use of violent images and references to SHOOTING those you disagree with that has become so prevalent, so shamelessly, part of Republican commentary? Back in the day, FDR and JFK had some vicious opponents, but they usually bandied their hatred about among the like-minded. No one publicly felt free to make the downright treasonous statements constantly made today about Obama. Please, someone give me a few "like" remarks ever made by Democrats about their opponents. I don't mean some local, small town Democrat, if there might be some rare instance.

You will hear a louder and louder call for violence from the tea terrorist as time goes by. They will be in full melt down mode before Christmas2015.

I edited this post to state that this guy should be arrested and charged with making a threat and that would put his ass on nat tv.It would bring this very important issue to the front. Its just another example of dog whistle terrorism.

if it "wasn't a threat"? These ignorant, hateful, violent pieces of crap need to be held accountable for their violent talk, spewing their BS "Second Amendment solutions", etc., etc., etc. They learned NOTHING from Las Vegas. I am also so sick and tired of their lame, CYA "I was taken out of context" bullshit. Nothing, as far as I can see, was "taken out of context.
