The Obama administration has accused syndicates in Latin America of waging a deliberate campaign of misinformation that has caused people in poor Central American countries and Mexico to risk their lives to head for the United States, where they expect to stay.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the administration is addressing the problem in several ways.
"We're going to open up some additional detention facilities that can accommodate adults that show up on the border with their children. And we're going to deploy some additional resources to work through their immigration cases more quickly, so they're not held in that detention facility for a long time, and hopefully be quickly returned to their home country," Earnest said.

(9,314 posts)is: Earnest said the administration is also working with Central American countries to address the problem at its root.
If you don't address the root problems, the influx isn't going to stop.

I'm glad you took the time to read it.

(9,314 posts)very upsetting. I lived just about 13 miles from the Mexican border at one time and it was always the children that really got to me when I went to Mexico.
I'll stop now or I'll go off on a rant.

(13,252 posts)Bit of a bear in practical application given the country we've become.
Sad. That's a vast understatement but anything else and I'm off on a long rant.

(13,252 posts)impractical. They interfere with the bottom line and a few too many people are concerned that someone who "hasn't earned it" might benefit.
I'm really trying to avoid going off on a rant here.
Thank you for your beautiful words.

(13,252 posts)Okay...now I think I'm getting "punchy." I've been up since 2am (local). The last time I felt this way on DU we had a virtual "pajama party" in the middle of GD. It was a lot of fun but I think we caused a lot of eye-rolling.
edit to add: thank you for the rec. I just noticed.

(13,252 posts)I even spend time to re-evaluate my values; make sure they haven't become outdated or proven wrong/biased/ignorant. Gut checks.
I'd love to live in the US that practiced the ideals I was taught.
I think without ideals we become jaded and hard.
