I'm now on another laptop with Linux (which I'm trying to learn) and although it's really different, so far I like it.
It does have its drawbacks though for a Windows addict. LOL!

It happened towards the end of last week if that helps at all. I had just done a major update earlier that same day, so I was surprised when another new update showed up around 3:45pm. I remember the time but not the date, unfortunately.

This crap keeps happening to me...]]][can you read between the lines?][ [does Anonymous realize that illegal eavesdroppers in your homes watch you type in passwords? Do these brave, young operators realize that the FBI, the NSA, GCHQ and other intelligence agencies want to hire them, if they stay in school? Now is the time to come get the three new documents!!! As we promised long ago, now Anonymous operators of ALL ages will virtually get new eyes... ]

Have you tried reinstalling windows & creating a limited user account? You shouldn't be in an administrative account unless you are going to make changes to the system. You can also try sandboxie which opens a browser with limited privileges in an Administrative account. If the browser acts buggy you can erase the sandbox and start over, but nothing infects the system overall. That can clear things up too. I use linux, but I had to do a lot of learning and it isn't for everyone. The real reason it is safer is that it forces you to use a limited user account. When you use an Administrative account to go online you give hackers, and malware access to your system files.

a virus or malware that locked her out of her computer. She brought it to me and I spent hours trying to fix it. Finally, I found a program that I put on a flash drive and booted to the flash drive and finally got rid of the virus.

I don't remember what program it was but I can find it if you need it.

Should I be afraid?

That's a good song - I just looked it up and have it playing. Haven't heard it for awhile.
