Pennsylvania Woman Opens Fire Near Children Playing With Squirt Guns

A Reading, Pennsylvania, woman pulled out a real gun and opened fire while a group of kids were playing with squirt guns, according to the police.

Officers arrived on the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Residents in the area told police that four children were playing with squirt guns on the sidewalk when one of their neighbors, Billie Jo George, pulled out a real handgun and started pointing it at the kids, according to court documents. According to WFMZ, one of the neighbors yelled to George, “What are you doing with a real gun! Why are you pointing it at my kids? They are only kids!”

At that point, the female witness ran inside her home and called police, and while inside, she said she heard a loud “pop.”According to other witnesses, George was standing on her porch and pointing the gun at the street, then fired a round.

“She pointed it at my daughter’s face,” one witness said. “God was with my daughter that day.”

The 24-year-old woman was arrested and charged with four counts of recklessly endangering another person, discharge of firearms, propulsion of missiles onto roadways and disorderly conduct. She is being held on $75,000 bail.

The point is, that NRA types will use the second amendment as the reason this "obviously unqualified to own and operate a firearm" person should be able to buy whatever deadly weapon they want and take it wherever they want whenever they want.

I do not keep a library of blue links for something as obvious as this, though a library full of quotes on the subject is easily had.

I am not wasting my time with your request. Do it yourself.

I actually pulled up a dozen or so quotes with a simple google search on "second amendment keep and bear arms statement" from right wing politicos. Started to cut and paste them into a response. But, no, not worth the effort. Those that would not see the validity of my statement are as bad as climate change deniers imho. No amount of facts are going to change their views.

It is the NRA's relatively recent crusade and extreme bending of the 2nd that allows this to happen. Lots of people with common sense have been trying to keep guns from people who should never be her them, and the NRA insists that every owner is a good guy with a gun right until they become a bad guy with a gun.

No true Scotsman.

Edit: not sure why the Reply Title auto-corrected. Fixed.

from purchasing a firearm through an FFL because those mechanisms have due process.

If this person is dangerous due to mental instability she could have been committed.

Hopefully she will be charged with a felony and be banned from owning firearms.

The NRA does not, as you falsely claim, support people buying whatever deadly weapon they want and take it wherever they want whenever they want. Yes, the NRA is liberal on gun ownership, but they support reasonable restrictions.

The second amendment is to blame for way too many deaths and had these kids died ...it would be perfectly right to blame it. We need an constitutional amendment to end this crap...militia means militia period. I for one am sick of sending my kid to school in fear of the loons who can buy a gun thanks to the NRA, Scotus who does not get the concept of militia and the damn fools who buy the guys...glad these kids were not harmed ...hoped the stupid woman get years in jail and let that be a lesson.

Nitwit woman can get a gun she doesn't know how to use properly, but it would be infringing her rights to regulate her ownership of the holy relic by requiring her to get training in its proper use and handling.

Thanks again, NRA and "responsible" gun owners.

This is past the point of ridiculousness. The only people with guns should be military and police.

MAYBE make a lengthy application and registrsrion process for private citizens to use single shot muzzleloaders for hunting purposes only.

There's something wrong with this woman, beyond the fact she has access to a gun.
