BOULDER, Colo. — A Boulder County clerk began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples after a federal appeals court ruled that states cannot prevent gay couples from getting married.
But the Colorado attorney general says the licenses are invalid because the court’s ruling was put on hold.
Clerk and Recorder Hillary Hall said in a statement Wednesday “unless a court in Colorado or the U.S. Supreme Court tells me otherwise, I plan to begin issuing licenses.”
Hall said the decision by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel Wednesday made it clear that marriage is a fundamental right.

interviewed an Indiana couple who rushed to get the marriage license. The pure joy in the couple's voices were so sweet and soul reaffirming... let equal rights flow through our nation like the long yearning quench of an unimaginable thirst.
“They are welcome to their opinion, and I wouldn’t expect anything else from them,” she said, referring to Suthers’ office.
