Another Red State Democrat Calls On Elizabeth Warren To Bring Home A Victory

The conventional wisdom in the mainstream media is that Elizabeth Warren is too radical to have national appeal. Beltway pundits typically characterize Warren as a far left Senator who has appeal with Democratic progressives and with her Massachusetts constituents. However, they typically depict her as too far outside the political mainstream to have appeal in swing states or red states.

However, the out of touch pundits may be overlooking the appeal of Warren’s economic populism. Red state Democrats may have discovered the strength of Warren’s message to help out folks on Main Street instead of Wall Street. Elizabeth Warren has already been welcomed by Democratic U.S. Senate candidates Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky and Michelle Nunn in Georgia, to campaign on their behalf.

Now West Virginia Senate candidate Natalie Tennant plans to campaign with Elizabeth Warren in July. Although the state went 62-36 for Mitt Romney over Barack Obama in 2012, Tennant is welcoming Warren to boost her chances of winning the Senate race in November. Red state Democrats may have finally figured out that economic populism is not only the right ideology to fight for working families, but that fighting for working families is also smart politics.

In fact I've told some of my Tennessee Democratic party honchos that they need to dust off and update some of Huey Long's speeches. Warren is no Huey Long , but she's what we have today.

EW is the party leader right now, despite her lack of an official position in the party. She's our moral conscience and that's what being a Democrat should be about.

and has lived in Texas. She speaks the language. If she turns a couple of House seats or a Senate seat, Hillary better look out. If Warren helps knock off the Turtle she puts the South in play and the party will be begging her to run.

Too bad he's so young, they said. Too bad he's only been in the Senate a couple of years at this point. Someday he'll make a fine President, but first of course Hillary Clinton will be getting the nomination and probably elected. Not to worry. He'll still be young enough in 2016 (and by then he'll have had over a decade in the Senate) and he'll run then.

The common wisdom about who will run or who will win is often wrong.

I am rather bemused that the Hillary supporters are adamant that she really is running and will absolutely get the nomination and be elected, despite the fact that she's been saying all along that she isn't, or at least hasn't made up her mind. On the other hand, they totally believe Elizabeth Warren when she says she's not running. How odd is that?
