I used to keep one as a classroom pet, because it was easy care and I didn't have to worry about anybody wanting to handle her. So when I ran into them on occasion in the wild, it was even more cool.

I see them crossing the roads sometimes. Sometimes I'll stop and watch. Once I found one not moving, just kinda standing around in the road. I figured it was easy pickings for a bird there and tried to shoo it off into the brush but it wouldn't budge. I even tried nudging it but that just pissed it off.

town. I remember not being afraid of them, and used to pick them up sometimes to get a closer look. Never got bitten.

although I think that's usually a bad idea for the poor spider.

I'd see them once in a blue moon in Florida, too. They'd just wave their forelegs in greeting and go about their business.

once in my backyard. I was reparing a retaining wall and he just darted out and took off. We're on the extreme northern range, so they are not a common sight.
