ST. LOUIS The Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis is condemning a city move challenging Missouris constitutional ban on same-sex marriage by issuing marriage licenses to four gay and lesbian couples.
The diocese issued a written statement calling the city decision a violation of the laws of our state (that) disregard(s) the laws of nature.
Four same-sex couples were married Wednesday a City Hall ceremony. The city decision was an intentional effort to force state courts to overturn the constitutional ban passed by state voters a decade ago.

(7,960 posts)His covering up for child-molesting priests is going to cost the ordinary, law-abiding Catholics in his diocese millions. This sort of nonsense is why I left the Catholic church years ago. I had hopes that Pope Francis might do something to get rid of these enabler bishops but he seems rather more interested in cleaning up the church's financial mismanagement (admittedly a major priority) than dealing with his church's greatest moral failing since the failing to denounce the Holocaust.
My mother would have died happy if I'd returned to Catholicism while she lived but right now I'm perfectly content to be an agnostic most of the time and a Christmas and Easter Lutheran.

Alternately you can mail the pope via usual mail at this address:
His Holiness, Pope Francis PP.

Citta del Vaticano
Assuming your post was made in sincerity.
Now, if you're implying something altogether different, you can state it to me clearly, I think.

(146,286 posts)As a non-Catholic, it doesn't seem as though my opinion would make any difference to a Pope.
I don't imply things, rug. I state them.

(19,348 posts)I would advise the archdiocese that the dark ages have past and enlightened society has replaced the Roman church.
A Civilized people do not need the advise of this archaic institution.

(3,172 posts)However, we should be supplying them with all the evidence we can that shows the Catholic church no longer qualifies for its tax exemption.
We might be biting off more than we can chew if the churches make it their business to be involved in politics, but we can sure as hell (pun intended) make it more expensive for them and their financial supporters to do so.
