Meet Rubythe type of girl the Tea Party would be happy to have on their side. Yeah, she might look like a doll straight out of an American Girl catalog, but at least she's not afraid to share her thoughts on circumcision and the modern women.

(146,255 posts)Poor kid. Kids tell dirty jokes, but they don't do it while being videoed in front of a white backdrop.

(111,143 posts)I remember quite clearly being about this age and telling jokes that would put a rat off a garbage truck. I wasn't alone, either.
Parents think kids like this are all bubble gum and jump ropes.

(111,143 posts)I did scandalize one neighborhood when I was about 10 by teaching the kids the lyrics to some of the racier songs in "Damn Yankees," a show album my parents played a lot.
My parents realized it was their own fault and there was no punishment, although I did get a lecture on where boundaries were for the future.
Then again, they'd already bought a house elsewhere and we were preparing to move.
I knew adults were largely humorless when it came to dirty jokes from kids. I didn't even tell the ones I'd heard to my own parents.

You said the magic word: Your parents realized that a BOUNDARY between the kid and adult worlds had been breached. They KNEW it was WRONG -- AND THEY TOOK CORRECTIVE ACTION!

(45,274 posts)Kids telling each other dirty jokes (and migod, how ineffably STUPID most of those jokes were), being kids, is something else. Putting this child into an adult onstage setting & fawning over her is a violation of her childhood. It is a boundary violation. It is not OK, and I can readily imagine harm arising from it.

(110,159 posts)giggle about other kids being taught this shit when a parent should be doing their job. there is nothing cute, but abuse of adult power. i watch a man manipulate his daughter in one way, and two sons another that has caused harm to all three. they are trying to figure it out in their late teens and early twenties. you know. fix the parents fuck up.
i am not interested at all.
it is sick. putting that young girl up front, in front of men, saying these things about women and using language. i do not need to watch anymore.

(12,723 posts)There was a time such a joke would possibly have gotten a person banned from DU but not in the capricious jury age.
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Fri Jun 27, 2014, 01:47 PM, and voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Give me a break! The warning in the subject line said this is "offensive." The text before the video said the girl in the video could easily be a Tea Party member. There's no reason to hide the video any more than there is a need to hide other posts that contain photos of teabaggers carrying offensive signs.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter needs to get a sense of humor. Frivolous alert.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: After all those warnings in the subject line, this gets alerted? I haven't watched the video, I admit, but the subject line warns that the video contains content that could be considered "offensive" by many.
NOTICE Juror number 7 did not even watch the video. great job juror 7!!

(44,572 posts)But within the context of this thread, it's actually a perfect illustration of WHY adults videotaping kids telling dirty jokes is such an awfully awful idea.

especially since there don't seem to be any women in the "audience."
I swapped dirty jokes with my sisters, friends, and schoolmates as a kid, and I'm sure my sisters' kids did, too. But we had enough sense to draw the line at swapping them with ADULTS!

(30,151 posts)Just saw now that they find the kids on Craigslist of all places-
Kids Telling Dirty Jokes is our new series that features tiny comedians we found on Craigslist. The premiere episode stars Talin, who looks like a sweetie but is actually the devil. Someday he'll be on a Disney show like Dog with a Blog, sleeping with all three of his female co-stars, and every morning he'll wake up thinking, I owe it all to VICE Media. You're welcome, Talin!

And they think it's cute to claim they were recruited from Craigslist?
I rest my case.

(13,324 posts)and maybe most importantly, not funny. And the "shock" factor of a 10-year-old telling them wears off pretty fast.

(13,324 posts)I wouldn't suggest that the kids are being harmed by it in any meaningful way, but I do wonder a bit RE: the adults involved.

(41,965 posts)Little girl telling sexist and homophobic jokes with grown men laughing in the background. Reminds of of a bunch of pedophiles grooming their next victim.

(13,485 posts)with kids repeating or laughing at dirty jokes, but I don't put misogyny, bigotry, racism, and any kind of belittling of other humans in that category. Misogyny, bigotry, racism and negative categorizing of persons are not jokes. They are a way to promulgate the hate and undermine the seriousness of it. When a child is involved, to me it's abusive. When it's adults in the background guffawing and promoting this behavior, it verges on pedophilia.
Who's the audience? That answers a lot.

(135,425 posts)I don't go for using children to tout political views either.
In fact, children as little "mini-salesmen" to me is uncomfortably close to child abuse, too. I don't like seeing some little kid selling me anything from a car to paper towels.
Let kids be kids....
