Religious Groups Ask President Obama for Special Treatment.

More than 100 religious leaders have signed on to a letter asking President Obama to "respect this vital element of religious freedom" by allowing religiously affiliated groups to ignore the LGBT nondiscrimination order the President recently announced he would sign for companies that partner with the federal government.

Earlier this month, the White House announced Obama's plan to sign an executive order barring discrimination against LGBT employees by federal contractors, as more wide-ranging federal legislation remains stalled in the House.

Mere days after that announcement, religious organizations were clamoring to see Obama insert religious exemption language, allowing religiously affiliated federal contractors to fire, refuse to hire, or decline to promote LGBT people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

But this letter, sent June 25 and organized by the Institutional Religious Freedom Alliance, goes farther than those general calls, suggesting specific language which the religious groups would like to see included in Obama's executive order.

Pardon my language but I hope President Obama tells them to go fuck themselves.

If they want to do their own thing, let them pay their own way for it. I mean, isn't that the whole "conservative" philosophy? Isn't taking goodies (which includes things like tax exemptions), gasp, "socialism"?

the lengths that "religious" organizations go to make sure that their views get preferential/protected status so that they can keep on hating on people they don't like. I mean, does anybody else have the time and energy to really worry about what other people doing and who they're having relationships with off the clock? What business is it of theirs anyway? When somebody is hired for a job, they're not signing their right to have a private life away, are they?

And having the "moral majority", they just can't get over it. Time moves on.

they keep failing to notice that society is changing around them and failing to change with it. They're not "conservatives", they're really "dead-enders" (for the lack of a better term). The 1980's and mid-1990's were great for the "Moral Majority" and "Christian Coalition" but the fact that there have always been and always will be LGBT people no matter how repressive a society is towards (Iran? Uganda? Hello?) them should give them a clue that it's not going to go away just because they don't like "teh gays".

They get the same benefits of our country that I get... they are defended from violent enemies... they drive on well paved roads... the police and fire departments come when they call... and many more. But they claim that 'free exercise of religion' exempts them from having to pay for these services. If a law requires me to do something I would rather not do... tough! If it requires them to do something they would rather not do... it interferes with the 'free exercise of religion'. Things that would be a crime for me to do are just embarrassing for them.

The same church that taught me that rape was ALWAYS the woman's fault, sheltered men who sexually abused children, and then has the utter gall to claim the moral high ground.

They show no respect for living breathing human beings in return they get none for their twisted antiquated beliefs.
