without the overt notification (siren, lights, etc.) that he was in the middle of a pursuit or other immediate police business. I applaud the guy. When the final revolt comes, you can bet this dude won't standing on the sidelines. He'll be actively involved.

We saw this deputy(who often harassed us) pull an illegal u-turn to drop off police reports at the local paper. We stopped him and told him to write himself a ticket. He told us we would have to file a citizen complaint at the courhouse. So we did. We later received a call from the Sheriff saying that the officer would get a warning this time. We never had any problems with this officer after that.

Most states have such exemptions. This truck driver has his heart in the right place but his head is squarely, well, you know where!

the video with a time stamp, both in the truck driver's truck and the officer's car could verify if he was on offical duty. I was once passed by a cop with lights flashing, causing me nearly to wreck and just a few minutes later seeing his car parked in a nearby restaurant and him sitting at the counter waiting for his noon-day meal.

I called in to complain one time when I saw an officer flying lights and sirens down the street then turn off his siren and lights and after going through several intersections. Turns out, he was responding to an officer needs assistance call but the man who they had been fighting with was arrested and the emergency was over, so the officer turned off the equipment and went on about his normal business.

I felt a little sheepish.

looking down a barrel of a gun which had been pulled unnecessarily but received some justification at a later time. I respect law enforcement and realize it is better to follow orders and then ask questions later. The use and presence of dash camcorders just may be necessary. I would hope this policeman will understand his actions was unnecessary and in the future will be more about applying our laws and rules to himself also.

but it does have a positive impact. The new system is set up so that negative information resulting from a roadside inspection of a commercial vehicle can expire and the 'score' can be improved by receiving reports or inspections that are violation free.

If he is a company driver it helps both him and the company.

The thing about this new system however, is that I may have millions of accident free, ticketless miles, but if my personal CSA score is bad because the company trucks I drive continue to fail inspections, it can make it difficult or impossible to get hired at another trucking firm.

And FWIW, while I applaud the trucker getting away with what he did, it isn't something I would ever consider doing. I do not trust the police to do the right thing and as a result, and as a CDL holder myself, I want to minimize my interaction with law enforcement as much as possible. I would just let the cop go on with his law breaking and just hope that I am the first one on the scene of his crash.

when I was out there motoring in an 18 wheeler, I was very cautious of the Illinois SP in particular. They were as nasty and brutal as all the "bad cop" videos we see on a regular basis, and they always got away with it.

I specifically recall a time when there was a particular pair of cops who had a "pullover racket" operating... back in the 1980s when they were always right and the citizen driver was always wrong. They would patrol I-80 cruising down the left lane of the Interstate with a high powered radio and read the bible and the DOT code book for we drivers late at night. They were going over 80mph and passing us, we were in the right lane and nobody dared pass anyone or make a sound on the radio - since talking over them pissed them off - while they were within a few miles, because those who did would end up with them coming down on you like a bad stink on a carcass. They were widely known (well the one reading aloud) as "the preacher". It was best to just stay in line and get to the state line where you could get down to business and get the hell out of the corn belt. It was like getting a couple hours of what a rolling state prison might be like, it was an oppressive, heavy vibe.

There were some equally, maybe worse, racketeers around Abilene, TX who had a different scheme/scam going where they'd pretend you made an illegal traffic move and then pocket your fine - they only accepted cash.

I'm so glad I'm not in that business anymore, I'd probably get shot.

in the wrong because his tone totally changed.

If only the police commanders or whatever they are called would say to the officers "no you are not above the law and I won't stand for this type of behavior and you will be driving a desk if you continue" and then follow through - we would have better police officers patrolling.

He was blocking our access to a grass fire and I wasn't very polite about it either. He started to give me a ration of shit about it then he looked and saw about a dozen other firemen standing there glaring at him so he got in his car and, get this, drove away.

I'm still not sure what he was doing there in the first place. Maybe he started the fire.

He hated my guts until the day he died.
