Remember this tomorrow morning with the Supreme Court

The media always fucks it up when the decision is handed down.

These rulings are hundreds of pages long, full of nuance, qualifications, legalistic cadences, and a level of detail not suited for the instant gratification culture of today's media. Some bubblehead on the cable channels or some correspondent on the networks with tousled hair and a $3000 suit is not going to get it right. Remember how most of the networks declared the individual mandate unconstitutional as NFIB v. Sebelius was coming down the pipeline. Then they actually read the ruling. In short Supreme Court decisions are for grownups, which has nothing to do with the media.

The decision itself will contain an official SUMMARY, which can and should be relied on for the quickest understanding of the decision itself. DU and the media can understand the Summaries.

Don't know how they will thread the needle to let HL have its way, but not a future mega corporation owned by "devout" Jehovah's Witnesses who refuse to allow any policies that pay for blood transfusions. But somehow they will make allowances for a "Christian" interpretation, but not others.

that it will have bad consequences. The law is the primary standard by which a court decision should be judged.

which is often ignored. Courts don't MAKE the policies courts are required to interpret.

reading the tea leaves of all the decisions made so far this term, I predict that Hobby Lobby is going to be more of a winner than a loser tomorrow.

than a paragraph, which challenges some people's attention span. Pete Williams gets it right.

Pete Williams is one of the few MSM reporters who I trust and respect. He was amazing during the Boston Marathon bombing.
