I don't think I even heard about the place until about a year ago when the lawsuit first hit the news. Then I noticed they were supposedly putting one in a few miles from where I live, but apparently it hasn't opened yet.
From what I gather it's some sort of craft and hobby store, similar to Michaels. Which is wonderful, considering whenever I've been to Michaels, my eyes immediately glaze over the minute I step in the door. (There's yarn, and some glue, different colored yarn, some glitter glue, and look--more yarn!)
Frankly, the place could be called Barack Obama's Emporium of Craft Related Stuff Just for Liberals, and I still wouldn't get much use out of it.
So yeah, sign me up for the Hobby Lobby boycott.

(18,402 posts)I've never even seen a Hobby Lobby store, though I can guess what it is. So "boycotting" is not really doing anything, since I never patronized them before.
Maybe what we (you and I, and anyone else who cares to join us) needs to do is set up shop every day, before 10 am, outside a local Hobby Lobby store ... closer than 35 feet to its entrance, for sure! ... and "counsel" the women employees who are coming to enter the store. We can "gently" inform them about the incredibly anti-woman views of their owners, and encourage them to quit their jobs there. We might even try to help them find better jobs. We could give them "brochures."
Just sayin'

(15,682 posts)There is only one HL store that I know of close to my home. I've never seen a single person step foot inside that store. Ever. I'm sure they must get a few customers but it probably wouldn't be a great place for sidewalk counseling.
I still love the idea. I think I'll do a Google search to see where else they have stores in my area.

(12,693 posts)Still never seen a store...I guess they don't have locations in the west?
I rarely have a reason to go in anyplace that doesn't sell power tools.

(15,682 posts)But I also love craft stores. And there are plenty around that aren't Hobby Lobby.

(15,800 posts)A few years ago I stumbled across the information that the Bush family were the primary stockholders in "Michaels". Yes, that Bush family. Don't know if that's still the case, though.

Where are you going to go now?

(61,935 posts)There's also a bunch of wicker baskets around. Stuff reminiscent of what Pier1 used to have long ago.

(9,199 posts)Even bought some baskets there once.
Half the store is frames and baskets and home decorating nick-nacks.
The other half of the store is art supplies, fabrics, unfinished wood objects, rug kits, etc.
Hobby Lobbys typically move into distressed real-estate, say where a Walmart moves to a new location, a Mervyn's closes or a large grocery store goes out of business.
While a boycott of Hobby Lobby is something I will get behind, I'd rather someone figure out a way I can boycott this arrogant Supreme Court.

(30,947 posts)and I have never set foot in it. I would always go to Michael's for any craft needs, which is only a few miles farther. Now I will definitely never shop at Hobby Lobby.
