Young Voters Should Heed The Message & Really Get Engaged In Politics Or Suffer The Consequences....

Right now I'm feeling really sorry for young voters. They are getting it put to them from Congress and SCOTUS. They are being used with respect to student loans. Young women are being ignored with respect to contraception, abortion rights, equal pay. Some young voters because of new voting laws around the country are being denied their right to vote if they are in another state at college.
They are subject to fight and get maimed or die for this country in unnecessary wars. Getting a good job is an issue. If they get a job - wages are being suppressed. The environment is getting worse and worse and taking in account climate change - what kind of world will they be living in say 20 years from now and when they get to be my age. How can you live the American Dream - when you can't afford a house and the world you live in is deteriorating because we're not putting money into rebuilding this country's infrastructure. Bottom line they are getting jocked around by Congress, SCOTUS and the Repub Party.

Me - I'm near the end of my career and soon to be retired - but these young kids that are just starting out are starting out at such a disadvantage then we were in my youth.

If today's youth don't get engaged and take an interest in Politics and use their vote to make sure that they can secure their future - I really feel bad for them. From my perspective it looks like it will only be a downward slide for them.

You parents out there - please sit your children down and tell them how important it is for them to get engaged politically. I know that you had children and your goal was to make the world a better place for them. It just doesn't seem to be working out that way now.

I feel for our children and their children. I'm worried. I'm sad for this mess that we are giving to them.

I feel for young people too.
But we did not hand them this. The right and it's support of corporations handed them this.
To support women's rights is to support my wife's rights and if I had kids my daughter's rights. Most of us have grand kids who we care more for then we do ourselves. I doubt we are as self centered as the tea fucks or most republicans.

another person in my age group (you upaloopa). I would have thought that this OP would have generated some back and forth discourse. This makes me even more worried and sad. Is it apathy. Don't people care about the youth and what their world will look like if they don't get involved and take control of their destiny by voting? Have people just given up?

I hear what you are saying about the right and the support of corporations handing this to us - but our age group - that came through the protest years of the 60's and were so idealistic - we've been responsible for voting through our lifetimes and it is our generation that gave the platform to the right and the corporations that now look to be in control. We didn't elect the right people.

I'm really saddened and perplexed.

I do not subscribe to the idea of collective guilt.
Yes it seems there should be more discussion on this.
The two SCOTUS decisions do not affect me personally. I belong to SEIU and if we lose money over this it will effect me for 23 months at most. And I have no kids and my wife is no longer in child baring years but I care as much as anyone here about what is happening.

luckily i live in a vote by mail state so i don't have to stand in line! I hope EVERY forward-thinking American fights back via the ballot in response to today's disgraceful supreme court decision. The DNC & other progressive PAC's need to remind Americans every day about the do-nothing Congress and the regressive judicial activists!

... and putting on my best Old Fart Curmudgeon persona...)

"Them kids are too damn busy with the sexting and video games to protect their own asses."

They better fucking get un-busy and get off their asses.

I've protested wars, escorted at abortion clinics, wrote letters, met with my congressperson, donated to my candidates and candidates from other states....

I don't need birth control or abortion or "protection" from union dues, but I still work for social justice.

The kids need to get going.
