(81,194 posts)It's kinda dicey because the "n"-word is involved.
But it's damn TRUE! I find myself thinking (or maybe flattering myself into thinking) that AS a woman, I can kinda understand, in a very small way, what blacks in this country have had to withstand through the centuries in this country. It's strictly back-of-the-bus for women. Women in general have been regarded as property farther back than American slave days. It goes back to the Old Testament era - and even farther. Hey, if I took some of the Book of Leviticus seriously, I could be considering to whom I could sell my daughter - which neighboring country. Actually, strike that. Since I too am a female, somebody else (male) would already have considered to whom they could sell ME.
MIGHTY GLAD you brought this up, graywarrior! Much love to you and I'm glad you're back! Whether it's in a limited sense or more.

(3,300 posts)If you look across the planet, women in many societies (including our own) seem to be excluded from certain privileges only because of anatomy. They actually teach kids in kindergarten & up that they are all equal. When I grew up we just had fables passed on. I have hope for these younger generations. It's only dampened by the employment problems, and global warming, water shortages, armed gangs... you get the idea.
Anyway, great song by John Lennon!

More true now than 40+ years ago. There is NO excuse for being ignorant any more.

(65,616 posts)John was right, women are the slave of slaves. A good friend was LIVID yesterday, wondering wtf this country is coming to...I had no answer, just more quiet frustration at seeing her so mad about the SCOTUS ruling.
Ain't no sunshine in this world without contentment. Seems like some men's only drive in life is to crush a women's soul.
Bad days for America.

(8,421 posts)camp. Glad to see you back, if only for a limited engagement. I am in my office here looking at my "Imagine" photo (from Central Park memorial) and can't help but think of how far ahead of his time John Lennon was. And Yoko, I don't want to forget her.

(32,041 posts)listening to my mom make comments like "Phyllis Schlafly spends all her time flying around the country telling other women to stay at home!" . I was livid yesterday. In the 1970s there was such an emphasis on civil rights, women's rights, saving the environment - and after 30 years of Reaganomics it seems like we are back to the beginning.

(8,421 posts)Damn tired of the 'second class citizen' in the eyes of the government. Those 5 conservative jackasses can go to the devil. I'm also tired of the 'corporation' or 'business' over all other entities.
