The dirty, unwashed toilet? The one at the gas station that the absentee owner long ago gave up on. Sounds about right to me.

Pointing out this distortion on the supreme court may not be polite but it sure as fuck is relevant.

I feel that the court needs to better reflect the heterogeneity of the USA.

6 Roman Catholics, 3 Jews, 0 Protestants, 0 Buddhists, 0 Hindus, 0 Atheists, 0 Agnostics, 0 Shintoists, 0 Daoists (a.k.a. Taoists), 0 Mormons, 0 Rastafari, 0 Quakers, 0 Unitarians, ...

6 Males, 3 Females, 0 Transgendered, 0 Nongendered, ...

9 Heterosexuals, 0 Homosexuals, 0 Bisexuals, 0 Asexuals, 0 Pansexuals, 0 ...any other orientation. (I'm a spectrum of sexual-orientations thinker.)

7 Caucasians, 1 Latina, 1 African-American, 0 Asians, 0 Native Americans, ...

We don't do a real good job of having a Supreme Court that reflects the make-up of the American public. Not all of those inequalities can be fixed at once or in the short term.

I think there needs to be pressure however that the next Justice of the Supreme Court be LGBTQ or Asian, or not a Catholic or a Jew, or diverse from the current make-up. The Supreme Court of the US cannot continue to look like a star-chamber of the dominant culture over other diverse US cultures if they wish to remain relevant and be taken seriously.

There are six Catholic judges: Alito, Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, Roberts & Sotomayor; three Jewish, Kagan, Ginsberg and Breyer, who voted against Hobby Lobby, along with Sotomayor. The five who voted for Hobby Lobby were all male and all Catholic.

Sotomayor is not "Caucasian"; Puerto Ricans are an ethnic mix of indigenous people, Africans and Europeans. Which is what "Latino" denotes, in US customary usage. Spaniards are not Latinos; "Hispanic" is a linguistic category and not an ethnic one.

"Hispanic" means "Spanish-speaking people of Latin American origin", in US parlance. Those Spanish-speaking people may be of indigenous, African, or European ancestry, or all three. Ergo, "Hispanic" is not a racial or ethnic group. QED.

An Australian aborigine, an African-American, and an Irishman may all speak English; that doesn't make them members of the same ethnic group.
