Sometimes I feel like there are lesser evolved people walking among us. They crave attention and power and are willing to do/say anything to achieve their goals.

Or is there a meaning of that word that I haven't heard in the past 70 years or so?

He's does, however, have a command of the 'bagger language of hate, fear, xenophobia, etc..

If you "peruse a book" it means you examine it in detail. But a lot of people who don't fret details think it means "to skim."

It's fine to say that they skim across your yard with a weed whacker.

So, yeah, it's developing a new meaning. Just like "I could care less" developed a new meaning. And we acquired "irregardless."

People use big words they don't actually understand. As one illiterate oaf I heard arguing outside my apt. window one night privately shouted into his cell phone to the love of his life, "You not understanding my cognition and ratiocination, bitch." A truly dazzling display of the elocutionary arts, that bit. "Thinking and reasoning" would have been fine but too pedestrian for a man of his obvious learning; he therefore "up-sized" his vocabulary to impress only to reveal that his brain had turned to fat as he confused activity and result with process or capacity. Nuances matter.
