Watch "60 Minutes"

I know that many on DU soured on this program and we've skipped much because we were not going to wait until a game was over.

But it started on the expected time. The first program about the world food program, I was ashamed for all the plenty that we are having every day. Never mind Thanksgiving. I think that had we not eaten before that, I would have had hard time eating.

The second about hacking retail stores - there is really nothing that can be done

The third, about the lions of South Africa.

1. I agree with you on the eating part. I was eating my dinner, the THIRD meal

from T-giving leftovers. That makes four meals from a one-day event.

Seeing that made me lose my appetite and I was unable to finish my supper.

11. You are correct. There is talk about chip cards

but it did not appear as if the banks and the retailers are in a rush to implement it.

And it appears that the retailers: Home Depot and Target prefer to keep a low profile.

14. The people I listened to said it wouldn't be available until next year.

They were the bankers. I did not get the same feeling from them as you. I think they look forward to it. Bank loss prevention is a headache.

4. damn - really?! Nothing? This hacking debit/credit cards is serious stuff..

and the retailers don't really seem to give a crap much less the banks who issue the cards.

Yikes. Best to use debit cards for specific purchases and only put enough money on them for that purchase. Otherwise, leave at zero.

6. The "nothing" part isn't actually accurate.

Banks are creating microchips for credit cards (as reported on during 60 minutes), but they will take a year or so to hit. The "nothing" refers to this year, and a couple of bankers stating they realized there was nothing they could do to prevent what will happen this year. They are just waiting.

7. I have to watch it online tomorrow.....but

it's hard to believe that no one thought about all the vulnerabilities beforehand. Too interested to make profits than worry about security until after the fact, I guess.

Sounds like a good show.

that won't make it in today's world. The "doing nothing" part in the OP is not true

In some places it can be difficult to e credit cards because they're not chipped and pinned.

Paris is a good example: no American CCs in the Metro dispenser, the Velib stations, or the automated ticket booth at the Louvre.

It was explained to me by a person from Chase who said this was an example of the card companies being penny wise and pound foolish.

During the WFP segment I kept wondering if anybody tracks the charitable donations of billionaires and millionaires. They should be massively supporting programs like this rather than using their money as leverage to subvert democracy (Kochs), and if they aren't they should be publicly shamed.

Do those privacy "experts" stand to gain anything by stoking fears about privacy?

I hope Clarissa Ward is Lara Logan's replacement.
