The Holy, Infallible Beliefs of Beltway Pundits and Politicians.

* The presence of U.S. forces in the Islamic world contributes to regional stability and enhances American influence.
(Actually, it has turned for the worse since the 1980s.)

* The Persian Gulf constitutes a vital U.S. national security interest.
(Actually, the US is now the world's main producer of oil and gas due to fracking.)

* Egypt and Saudi Arabia are valued and valuable American allies.
(Actually, one is a military dictatorship and the other one is an absolutist monarchy and both are breeding terrorists.)

* The interests of the United States and Israel align.
(Actually, the US wants a Two-State-solution, Israel does not.)

* Terrorism poses an existential threat that the United States must defeat.
(Actually, terrorism is a result of social problems and will never be rooted out completely.)

Russian warships in Crimea...which nation is anchored closer to home?

The government there essentially has suspended democracy....and is protected from consequence by the American military....no wonder the hypocrisy of American power by force, not democracy, is getting noticed.
