OSKALOOSA — Community 1st Credit Union opened its doors Friday for some lucky pets to find a new home.

The Community 1st Credit Union staff held its first-ever benefit for the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter Friday. People could bring in their pet food donations and they could walk out with a new cat or dog. The benefit began at 8 a.m. and wrapped up around 5 p.m. Adoptable pets were on site from 11 a.m. to about 3 p.m.

"I reached out to the animal shelter," Community 1st Personal Representative Ditxa Richards said. One of the core values of a credit union is to be connected to the community, and Richards said that giving to the animal shelter would be a good way to do that.

"I saw their wish list in the newspaper," she said.
