After GOP staffer Elizabeth Lauten resigned on Monday over her much-criticized call for the Obama children to try showing a little class, Republican National Committee communications director Sean Spicer has come (partly) to her defense, criticizing the mainstream media for its coverage of the incident. Following up on an interview with NBC News, Spicer took to Twitter to condemn the media, avoiding a defense of Lauten by asserting that personal criticisms of the first daughters are unacceptable:
since was cut off (no surprise) here is what i told @NBCNews @TODAYshow re #ElizabethLauten : Children, especially the first daughters 1/3

are off limits. While the comments were inappropriate and insensitive, the mainstream medias coverage of this story is appalling. 2/3

In over 20 years in politics I have never seen 1 of the countless inappropriate comments by Democrats ever covered to a faction of this 3/3

(14,733 posts)Republicans are CONSTANTLY attacking Dem first kids for 'being ugly', or 'dressing like they belong in a bar' or whatever. Then they try to pretend there's some equivalency by saying 'but Dems attacked the Bush girls'. The Bush girls got falling down drunk in public - as adults. No Dems were saying 'they're the ugliest First kids ever', or taking them to task for thinking pardoning a turkey was lame.
There is simply no equivalency to be had on this issue.

(55,894 posts)I dislike the term slut shaming and think it's over used.
And it just makes me queasy to see the term used for any reason when talking about the Obama daughters.

(48,181 posts)this is a phrase that succinctly describes a cultural phenomena in one hyphenated word that might otherwise require a paragraph or two of liberal-speak gobbledy-gook to get across, which would mean it wouldn't get across. Sometimes we over-analyze things and ignore the value of effective memes, even if they aren't perfect. People get it. They understand that the Obama kids were "slut-shamed" and the reaction to that forced a massively unusual event: a Republican apology and a Republican firing.
Gift. Horse.

He has a point. 90% of the time the media just plays along. Every now and then, mostly by accident or because the twitterverse blew the fuck up, they stop playing.

There is absolutely
NOTHING
the right can find on ANY Obama, including wife and daughters, NOTHING, so they complain about a bored look on her face?
Jesus Christ this makes me angry...
At the risk of sounding like Joe Biden in one of his off moments, can anyone find a single thing about any of the Obama's that isnt something to aspire to?
Other than some of the President's positions that I find not liberal enough, but as human beings, as to behavior, attitude, etc.
Has there been ONE legitimate personal or for that matter administration scandal?
NOT ONE
