LeBron James Wears ‘I Can’t Breathe’ Shirt at Game

NEW YORK (AP) — LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and multiple players on the Brooklyn Nets are wearing "I Can't Breathe" shirts as they warm up for a game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn.

Kevin Garnett and Deron Williams were among four Nets wearing the shirts before the game in support of the family of Eric Garner, who died July 17 after a police officer placed him in a chokehold when he was being arrested for selling loose, untaxed cigarettes.

Chicago star Derrick Rose wore one before a game Saturday and James said Sunday he wanted one. He got it from Nets guard Jarrett Jack, who provided them to players on both teams.

"Obviously as a society we have to do better, we have to have empathy better for one another no matter what race you are, but it's more a shout-out to the family more than anything," James said before warming up.

I suddenly have much more respect for both of these sports figures. I'm a Detroit Lions fan so I'll defend Reggie as other fans say their stupid "but it was while representing the Lions" crap.

EDIT: which was mentioned in the article

Prince William and Kate Middleton are attending the game. Hopefully if they are unaware of what it means, they find out, and lend their royal support.

arrested for selling loose, untaxed cigarettes."

God, I hate the fucking media.

Garner was not being arrested for selling loose cigarettes. They don't send half a dozen cops out to respond to calls about some guy selling loosies. There had been a fight in public that the cops responded to. Garner helped to break up the fight. When Pantaleo saw Garner, he started harassing him about selling cigarettes because he had cited Garner for selling untaxed cigarettes in the past. When Garner talked back to Pantaleo and asked to be left alone, the cops jumped him.

Garner was killed for talking back to Pantaleo not because he was "selling untaxed cigarettes."

Get it fucking straight.

what he meant by wearing the shirt. Good thing I was the passenger and not the driver. I started yelling.

What did he mean? Do you really have to ask such a stupid question?

Rose was the first NBA player to wear the shirt. Good on him.
