http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/12/08/1350284/-Republican-megadonors-seek-to-clear-the-field-for-a-single-preferred-candidateGood news for Republicans:
They get someone who can form coherent sentences and is somewhat electable.
Good news for Democrats:
Whoever the pick is, they can attack him for being a "distant and aloof" lackey of shadowy people hiding behind the scenes.
"What is he really like? Is this his real opinion or is he just parroting what his billionaire donors feed him? If you vote for him, do you know WHO you elect?"
EDIT: It's the Obama-wasn't-thoroughly-vetted talking-point, but this time Democrats can use the tactic.

(28,394 posts)Mitt or Jeb, probably?
I doubt if they would go for Christie since he is so volatile and still has Bridge-gate hovering over him.

(31,681 posts)You also have Walker, George Pataki recently met with the Kochs, Santorum is still out there playing the fool, Rand Paul, etc. etc.
I don't think that tiny group is going to get their way.
And Pataki and Paul could both pull black and other minority voters with higher incomes into the Republican Primaries.

(31,681 posts)No one is inevitable . . . not even the 'top 3'. Paul has a very very good ground game working right now.
I live in a very red district in a very blue state - and they were out at our County Seat Christmas Parade with a booth this weekend.
And they all refused to wave an Leonard Lance (R NJ-7th) *snicker laugh*.

(4,458 posts)about whether or not they're building their Own Political Party has risen--I believe it's completely feasible. They have the money and they have the clout and they have a respectable number of Corp Reps strategically placed within our congress. And I've noticed lately, a particular brand of nasty as they attack the less extreme GOP in leadership.
Then there is this:
