Even if that is the circumstances, and let's face it, it wasn't for almost all of those tortured.
But even if it was it doesn't work because they know that 1. all they have to do is lie or hold out until the bomb goes off. And 2.since you have information they need, there is no fear of death. (which some terrorists don't care about anyway.)
But of course it was not used for a ticking time bomb, it was used on whoever they could get in their grasp, guilty or innocent.
Cruelty for the sake of cruelty.
It was revenge not coercion.

(1,713 posts)I've yet to hear of one, if it did - other than on the TV show "24", which I suppose we must presume at this point was a deliberately constructed piece of war propaganda, given its timing.
That scenario was never anything more than a justification to discard due process and all of the other trappings of civilization.
