Sam Sheppard was an Ohio osteopath convicted of murdering his wife in the 1950s. His conviction was eventually overturned. At a second trail, he was acquitted.
Also, Sam Shepard, the actor, is alive and well. I enjoyed his role as Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff (1984).
