http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2014/dec/14/john-crawford-girlfriend-questioned-walmart-police-shot-dead?CMP=share_btn_twTasha Thomas was reduced to swearing on the lives of her relatives that John Crawford III had not been carrying a firearm when they entered the Walmart in Beavercreek, near Dayton, to buy crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars on the evening of 5 August.
You lie to me and you might be on your way to jail, detective Rodney Curd told Thomas, as she wept and repeatedly offered to take a lie-detector test. After more than an hour and a half of questioning and statement-taking, Curd finally told Thomas that Crawford, 22, had died.
As a result of his actions, he is gone, said the detective, as she slumped in her chair and cried.

(5,125 posts)Actually, calling it an interview is much too generous. It was essentially 100% badgering and intimidation. He neither had any interest in determining any facts, nor were his methods capable of producing truth.

I bet they could have got this poor girl to admit that he had a gun on him when he went into the store if they inflicted a little pain on her...as it is all he had was the threat of jail and taking her kids.
But can't convince me that by the time the cops did this interrogation the cops did not already know it was a BB gun from the store.

(22,457 posts)where a cop says "you need to go downtown and answer some questions". Unless they arrest you, your answer to that question can be "Fuck Off!". If the police want to ask you questions they can ask them where ever you want. And even if arrested you don't need to answer any question.
Every kid should be taught that in school.

(16,230 posts)After reading about it, I cannot bring myself to watch the video. To harass and threaten this poor woman, before finally telling her that the man is dead, is so completely wrong... so immoral... so sick...
And nothing will happen to this man. Nothing. They'll say he's just "doing his job".

Next time, they'll get a pro to do the job... and the camera will be broken that day.

(13,088 posts)talk to the 'police' without an attorney !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are not your friends.
They are not their to protect you.
They have already made up their mind that you are guilty.
They lie during interrogations.
They lie under oath.
The uninformed public usually side with the police.
NEVER talk to the 'police' without an attorney !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They view you as another notch on their belt. (referred to as a collar if you watch any of the police shows that are on TV 24/7) Collars=Promotions.

(7,234 posts)but when you're a minority or poor person who lives paycheck to paycheck, have children and no real access to legal representation, and no way to pay for bail, you're going to try to talk your way out to prevent them from completely fucking you over. If you don't talk they can and will arrest you on some bullshit charge, place your children in foster care and if you rent, you stand to lose your apartment and all of your possessions while you rot in jail waiting for a preliminary hearing which could be months down the road.
For some its just not as easy as "I want my lawyer".

I live on $1060.00 per month.
I would have to get the money from my family and friends.
I am terrified of the police.
I would never tell them anything.
