There are two major crimes front and forward in the news right now. Bush, Cheney and their ilk should be tried for war crimes for torture. I agree and angry what they did was so wrong and a crime against humanity. There is immense outrage here about that and yes once again blaming this President for it all with all the hatred that can be tossed his way.
The other deserves outrage as well, UNARMED BLACK MEN ARE BEING SHOT WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE AT ALARMING RATES! THEIR CRIME...BLACKNESS! because it is a crime against humanity and it dates back centuries. Where is your outrage about black lives? Do they matter less to you? I must have missed all your posts.
We have a history of cruelty toward PoC. We bought them, we beat them we humiliated them and tried to take their soul, then on a whim we slaughtered them. Let's fucking charge white men for their hate crimes and torture. We have police today, stalking and murdering unarmed black men and women and children for no other reason than hate. WHERE IS YOUR OUTRAGE HERE? WHERE THE HELL DO YOU STAND ON THIS AT DU? Or do you only wish to blame the black man in office.
/143769085/
Black Children are asking for your help to make laws to protect them. Where do you stand? Will you continue your silence or will you stand a be heard.
WE SEE YOU!

AND NEITHER SHOULD WE UNTIL WE HAVE JUSTICE
IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THESE INJUSTICES ARE NOT CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY THEN NOTHING IS. IF YOU DO NOT STAND AND BE HEARD ALL ELSE BECOMES A MOOT POINT.
It hurt me to even post these pictures.

By going after the torturers he will simultaneously be dealing a blow to cops who look to their intellegent even brethren for guidance.
Lets stop these crimes now.

The OP actually shows some ignorance and cultural appropriation to fit a narrative. Under the OPs premise and yours this could be about anyone provided they have a deep tan.

(10,274 posts)I didn't know WE are Australian. Next WE will be personally responsible for all that happened in south africa too.
If you want us to own the genocide of black peoples overseas. Lets start with recent history. The jihadist shock troops of NATO under cover of President Obama air campaign massacred thousands of black Libyans. Nary a peep from the peoples of DU. Our own leadership caught up in the exhilaration of imperial power.

(10,274 posts)Their experiences are closer to that of our Native Americans than Americans of African descent. They are after all the original people of Australia.
I get that the picture of a grinning white man with chained "black people" plays to a certain narrative. As I said earlier it's cultural appropriation and an appeal to emotion absent facts. She might as well have posted pictures from South Africa since the emotion apparently is much more important than context.
Here is a picture sheshe2 can use in her next emotional post
It's from googling "south african racists" but I'm sure she can repurpose it to fit her American narrative.

I had to re-read my post to see why you think this is a correction to it. Colonization hurt a great number of people of color worldwide. The slave trade is one example of colonization, but colonization hurt people outside of that too.

I have seen lots of outrage blaming this President for torture that he had no part of.
Yet the torture of PoC, where the hell are they?
Oh yes, there has been a ton of outrage about PoC being abused and beautiful protests. Yet those that condemn this President on his "said stance for torture" crickets on PoC being tortured. Fucking crickets! Zip Zilch Nada! The only time they come on one of those posts is to disrupt. That breaks my hard.
Nothing but a deep dark silence.

(20,317 posts)You don't like criticism of the President for failing to bring torturers to trial, so you suggest the critics are... what? Racists who are actually indifferent to torture, and only using the issue as a cudgel?
Gag.
Whoosh~
Right over your head.
Let me explain again. Simply this time.
Torture is torture no matter who is involved. You either show outrage for all or for none.
Simple as that, Marr.
Marr
(20,317 posts)You expect everyone who has a problem with modern day United States torture programs, and the people who conducted them, to make daily comments of outrage about the Spanish Inquisition? And anyone who doesn't has no right to complain about Barack Obama's failure to prosecute the torturers, or his admonishment of critics for being 'sanctimonius'?
Again, your use of these people and their suffering as a shield for some politician is distasteful in the extreme. I understand you adore this president, but this is just offensive nonsense.
The Spanish Inquisition???? Where the hell did that come from? You are so far over the map here.
And Marr, who are "these people" that you are talking about? The Iraqis that were tortured under Bush? Or are you referring to the black men being tortured and murdered in the US? I will give you the names if you do not know who they are.
My "use of these people as a shield"???? Dear goddess, you can't even seem to name them and you accuse me of using them?

(20,453 posts)Really? You want me to fish out all the posts from the Bush administration? I have to prove this to you?
Go fish if you are that interested. It's there in full regalia. That this far into the denial of BushCo, and even that fuck Cheney last night is the FACT that we cannot let torture go without consequence, else the United States of America will be see AND TREATED as the country that thinks American Exceptionalism trumps any international law.
Personally, I don't care WHO'S administration is in control at this point. You can't have it both ways. Deal with this fact, and maybe you'll see the objective here of putting our money where our mouth is.

Barack Obama's speech this past week illuminated aspects of the racial divide in this country in a nuanced and respectful manner. This speech offered an opening for dialogue:

Pat Buchanan has offered his response.
America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Blah, blah, blah, STFU Pat! Go to the link to see the link to the piece in it entirely - this is the source of white people who call Obama divisive and firing up racism from blacks. They should take a look in the damn mirror.
More of the article here:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/03/22/482071/-Pat-Buchanan-Slavery-Best-Thing-Ever-to-Happen-to-Blacks
Did Mr. Buchanan miss this photograph? Did his family come to these shores in chains and emaciated? Did he live under Jim Crow? Were members of this family sold off for profit, his maternal ancestors raped, were they subject to terrorism of the night riders and mobs who robbed and lynched them?
They worked themselves up from the pit of hell to whatever they have - nothing was given to them, their lives and the fruit of their labor stolen. Their families stolen, their language and their history. They came here like POWs, have continued to be treated so. Too many have been too comfortable for too long.
Those nostalgic about the rights of states and liberty and freedom and want to 'restore' the United States to pre-Civil War status, can all go straight to hell.
Good OP, Sheshe. Thanks for taking the conversation back to where it needs to be. We have a lot to work on.
JMHO.

(83,355 posts)and its coverup and praise "only wish to blame the black man in office": you're flat-out saying that torture critics are racist for their criticism of torture (or for not appending "and also the Blacks" whenever they oppose child rape): ALSO you're admitting that Obama's defending these people, because how else would "the black man in office" be involved had he not been praising and excusing these child rapists?
What an ugly outrageous attack on me.
No I never said that this is what I said
When did I call you a racist? Sadly you missed the whole point this is a Bush Cheney crime never Obama's yet he is being blamed for it.
And then you say
Dear Gawd...you say he and therefore I defend child rapists? WTF?
Then you wish me to my grave? Thank you so very much for your compassion for a fellow human being. I buried two close family members two weeks ago. I would never wish death on anyone. Your post is so incredibly ugly. Is this what DU has become? If so it is no longer the place for me.

ABOUT THIS
Just MY Thoughts
http://www.dailycal.org/2014/12/13/effigy-apparent-lynching-hung-sather-gate-saturday-morning/
There were several cardboard cutouts depicting lynching victims found on various parts of UC Berkeleys campus this morning. We (Black Folks at Berkeley) dont know who placed them there and what the motive was behind it. I have verified this Myself with Black student leadership!
During the #BlackLivesMatter and #Ferguson2Cal movement on UC Berkeleys campus and in the surrounding area, non-Black led groups have latched onto the movement as well. Some have turned this movement into other movements and some are just using their privileges to irresponsibly protest a cause because they can
While it is true that #AllLivesMatter
That statement is synonymous to statements such as #IDontSeeColor and I am #ColorBlind. These statements water down the focus that #BlackLivesMatter.
Historically we were considered a fraction of a person, and we are talking about BLACK lives at the moment
Although All Lives DO matter, some people dont even consider My life, or any other Black person to constitute a full life
or a life worthy of Mattering.
There is a Peaceful and Well-Organized Rally & March being held right now by our Black Student Union and other things scheduled for this weekend.
I am almost willing to bet a certain extremist group may have had something to do with it. There were more than one and they depicted actual lynching victims with names.
OUR Black student leadership did not do this and it was not part of anything I am aware of.
Its really difficult when Other people take OUR matters into THEIR own hands and do things like this. Ultimately, lynchings are a very sensitive subject and I wish people would STAY IN THEIR LANE when trying to support a cause or movement.
Putting up things like this overnight, with no people or literature to explain the history is Reckless and Inciting Confusion and Anger on a #NationalDayofAction
We dont know if this is in Solidarity or a Sign/Threat
Again, I appreciate true ally-ship, but people need to chill

Both things are outrageous. Both things are horrible and both things should cause everyone to demand justice.

(10,044 posts)or people high in the government who are inspired and willing to do what they did.
The blacks can't do it alone and even Obama is not the right man to correct the situation without being accused of favoritism. He and AG Holder can see that crimes are investigated fairly with new laws, but the breakdown between the law and people of color is becoming worse all the time. And these incidences are heart-breaking.
We all feel bad about what's happening, but we are old, poor, sick, and the robust healthy whites who are without power, money or popularity can do nothing but march. And that gets tired so that people don't watch....unless there are disruptions and riots.
Some people in power have to step up to the plate and think of ways to improve life for everyone. But who? I don't know.
These things come in cycles, I hope the time is coming soon with new leadership.
