Sorry, first thing that popped in my mind when I saw your post.

The doors - The soft parade:

Unfortunately, I don't know that anything will work right now. But I am hopeful that everyone doing their best will start to make a difference.

Petition the government with prayer!

17 May 1968 9 people walked into a Selective Service Office, took hundreds of draft files from a cabinet, took them outside, doused them with homemade napalm and burned them in the name of peace.

I concentrate on the ones I helped to get elected. Both of the Senators from my state and my house member voted NO on the CROmnibus bill. I contacted all three before the votes. I have no belief that I made a big difference, but that's how I petition the government.

posting to anonymous political message boards (and waiting for recs) to be the most effective method.

In all seriousness, I vote, I contribute to and work campaigns for those whom I support, I write letters to my congress folks, I attend town-hall meetings, and oh yeah, I vote.

By wrapping the petition on an arrow, soaking it in kerosene and lighting it afire before sending it along.

I think I like your idea better. Or both this doesn't really strike me as an either or thing.
