Free health care for life?
Nope.
But most of the congressmen and senators from Iowa and Nebraska stepping down this election cycle will walk away with pretty solid pensions some greater than others, based upon their years of service and when they entered Congress.
U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa leads the list. After 40 years in Congress, the Democrat will retire at age 75 with a pension estimated at $125,000 a year. On the other hand, Sen. No doubt they will be okay with that. If not they can always call Congress and complain to the GOP about the Conbus bill.

Yet they are federal employees so I would think they would have to take some kind of cut along with other federal workers.

(106,886 posts)7. Essentially the same as most other federal employees. That's not a big issue, imo. Other things are.

every election cycle so we can vote what they receive we should be the ones who decide if they get raises or not and what other perks they get or not.
