Boston Herald: Capuano ready to back Liz Warren over Hillary in 2016

Capuano ready to back Liz Warren over Hillary in 2016
12/15/14

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren today picked up one high-powered endorsement for a hypothetical Warren-Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential primary matchup — before either of the liberal lionesses have officially decided to run.

“If she runs for president I will be with her, I have told her that,” U.S. Rep. Michael E. Capuano told Boston Herald Radio this morning. Capuano said he initiated the discussion and reached out to Warren to let her know he would back her even if former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in the field.

“I brought it up. Look I think she’s done a great job. I think the party would be better off with her voice and I’d be happy to support her,” he said, adding that he believes Warren when she says she is not currently running. “My expectation is she has said the truth, I don’t think she is running. But at the same time, things change, and if she chooses to run, I would be with her. I just wanted her to know that.”

Capuano said Warren has worked hard inside the Washington, D.C., Beltway and focused on her job despite loud cries from progressives in the Democratic Party who have been pushing her to run. The Bay State’s senior senator has said many times that she will not run, but progressive groups have recently opened “Ready for Warren” offices in New Hampshire and Iowa to encourage the former Harvard Law prof....

fellow female running for office.

Stephanopoulos tried his hardest to get Liz to say the words, but she refused. (Liz fights Wall Street & Hillary IS Wall Street.

Please see interview below

STEPHANOPOULOS: You've been pretty clear, and we showed it in Jeff Zeleny's piece, that you say you're not running for president in 2016. It seems like you've just affirmed it again. You also signed a letter -- several senators signed a letter earlier this year encouraging Hillary Clinton to run.

So is she your candidate in 2016?

WARREN: You know, all of the women -- Democratic women, I should say, of the Senate urged Hillary Clinton to run. And I hope she does.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You hope she does. And if she does, she is your candidate, you're going to endorse her?

WARREN: If Hillary -- Hillary is terrific.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You know, you've said she is terrific very many times. You say that again in this book, "A Fighting Chance." But this book leaves out something of a pointed criticism from your earlier book, "The Two Income Trap."

There you praised first lady Hillary Clinton for her opposition to this bankruptcy bill pushed by the big banks, but go on to talk about how she, as New York senator, seemed she could not afford that principled position.

Senator Clinton received 140,000 in campaign contributions from banking industry executives in a single year. Big banks were now part of Senator Clinton's constituency. She wanted their support, and they wanted hers, including a vote in favor of that awful bill.

So do you think that -- are you worried that somehow she will bow to big business, those were your words in that book, if she becomes president?

WARREN: Look, I've made it clear all the way through this book and really what I've been working on for the last 25 years, that I'm worried a lot about power in the financial services industry.

I truly hope Warren changes her mind, and Sanders enters the race too.

"I'm not running for president." This is true. She isn't. No one is. Yet.

to please the Democratic base. I don't think they have any intentions for her other than to be a cheerleader for the base. I like her but I still get worried about her running AT THIS time. Timing is everything. I was extremely disheartened to hear the results of a recent survey that much less of a majority of the population think we need more regulation. We need to work on the message and no so much the person. We gotta change some minds.

It is how the question is ask..... I should have known.... http://www.governmentisgood.com/feature.php?fid=3 [link:http://www.governmentisgood.com/feature.php?fid=3|

"""For example, if you ask people about how they feel about government regulation of business in general, their reaction is largely negative. Over half say they believe that government regulates business too much. But once you start to ask about specific areas of regulation – from automobile safety to health care – people are much more likely to say they want more regulation than they are to say they want less.4 When people consider the specific ways that government programs may lessen dangers and risks for themselves and their families, they become more supportive of government regulation of business and markets."""

Totally agree!!! But I also think having a strong leader who excels at explaining common sense reasoning & is a media darling would help change some minds & change the tide. They would show with actions as well. Not just pretty speeches.

Crony capitalism with little to no regulation is killing the middle class. Its making the poor poorer. We know this. Others don't, mostly because of Fox...Liz will help get that message out there.
