Cal. Hwy. Patrol: Former military personnel.........adapt well to our paramilitary environment.

From the Hiring page of Cal. Hwy Patrol:

The CHP offers military personnel a unique working environment which utilizes the skills, self-discipline, and life experiences you have developed during military service.
Former military personnel easily fit into the CHP's workforce and adapt well to our paramilitary work environment.
You can use your former military skills and self-initiative to help you promote through the CHP's ranks.

The CHP's salary, medical benefits, and retirement plans are extremely attractive. They include a salary competitive with other California law enforcement agencies; medical, dental, and vision benefits for the entire family; and up to 90 percent retirement based on years of service and age.

It was simply our job to kill people and destroy things and do the job better than the other guy.

Clearly that particular skill set doesn't belong in a civilian law enforcement organization, unless it's going to regard the very citizenry that it oversees as the enemy.

The CHP's statement here is highly disturbing.

5. Yeah. The bold use of the phrase "para-military" stopped me cold.

When the hell did that become legal and so widely used and who authorized it?

Paramilitary forces are ones that are organized along the lines of the military, but aren't part of the military. Police departments, fire departments and the Girl Scouts are all paramilitary organizations.

I was gonna say the Boy Scouts...but considering they've got Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting merit badges, people might take that the wrong way.

on the trigger are former vets...perhaps some with PTSD. I don't begrudge them jobs, by any means, but I should think being on the cop beat wouldn't be one of them.

If both sides of the aisle had been working for the good of the country, these vets would have had jobs when they returned...good paying jobs and jobs that wouldn't put them in situations similar to war. That's too much to ask of our vets. I guess it's too much to ask of our Congress, as well.

Guess who the enemy is to these paramilitary cops?

There is no such thing as a good cop.
