Doctors eventually declared the use of it unethical.

On that note, one of the things that disturbs me most about the torture program is that doctors actually participated.

There have always been sociopathic doctors. We hope they are few and far between.

It was not a "truth serum", so to speak; but rather, worked to lower inhibitions.

Here's a good piece on the efficacy of truth serums.

It makes the subject very open to suggestion, so they often end up saying what the interrogator wants them to.

Anything you see using a term like "lie detector" or "truth" to describe its function is going to be unreliable, if not outright pseudoscience.

In addition to the part about it not really causing the victim to speak truth but actually to say whatever the interrogator wants you to, the dose that makes it "truth serum" is just slightly less than the dose that puts you under...and that very fine line is different in everyone.
