--- this is becoming something, I'm not sure what.
I've never seen this breadth of protests in 50 years of protesting.
excerpt:
Over 100 Legal Aid Lawyers in NYC staged a walkout and die-in outside Brooklyn Criminal Court to protest what they say is a broken criminal justice system.
The protest, organized by the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys (ALAA), saw hundreds of lawyers walk out of court as part of the #ThisStopsToday 11 days of action movement for Garner.

(45,274 posts)I think stuff is building under the radar. We are now in uncharted waters and most people don't realize that their old maps aren't going to work any more. There is more distrust in government, there is more awareness of income disparity, of surveillance, of police brutality, of general corruption and unfairness in the system. Something is going to blow.
But then, in all honesty, I said pretty much the same thing in 1970.

(45,274 posts)The Net gives a voice to the masses. Anyone might originate content that "goes viral." The various uprisings of the Arab Spring sparked from one to the next via the Net. And remember that the Wisconsin Uprising happened at the same time. Symbolically of the worldwide nature of the event, protestors in Cairo called in a pizza order to a Madison pizzeria:
It might seem like a small gesture, but its overwhelming to the staff at Ians on State Street a campus staple mere blocks from the Capitol where in the last few days, theyve fielded calls from concerned citizens of 14 countries, and all 50 states and the District of Columbia looking to donate money to provide free pizza to the Wisconsinites who have congregated here.
On Saturday alone, Ians gave away 1,057 free slices in their store and delivered more than 300 pizzas to the Capitol itself.
By 2 p.m. local time Sunday, theyd given away 351 slices and sent countless other full pies to the rotunda, where protesters have been gathering since well before noon. As a few locals stood waiting for their slices, an Ians staffer went to the chalkboard hanging behind the register and wrote, Turkey in big block letters and co-workers expressed a sense of disbelief.

(267,803 posts)The internet and media technologies today are for us what the steam engine, the printing press and railways were for folks centuries ago.
It has changed everything. Impression management is much harder when we decide what is news and don't need the establishment to bombard us with their bullshit.

(11,589 posts)You did great! FRom your article:
As legal actors, we are sworn to uphold and enforce the law, so we have a responsibility to condemn the racist criminal justice system of which we are a part, Ocen said. Today we must challenge this structure and take a stand against it.
When about 10 demonstrators lay in a lane of traffic; a Los Angeles police car moved to blocked the lane behind them. Courthouse deputies snapped photos of the attorneys lying on the wet courthouse steps and described the scene to commanders.

(10,597 posts)... or until the system is turned upside down and shaken out. Great on these public defenders/Legal Aid lawyers. Now what I want to see are a bunch of law enforcement officers (policemen) laying down in streets all over the country to protest what happened to Eric Garner. Cops in a die-in on the streets of America just might be what it takes to break the camel's back.

(3,864 posts)(I don't just mean here) who are applauding the protesters, are in the streets themselves.
Then we'll see something like this:
"tens of thousands of people took to the streets in France and in Italy, protesting..."
